England will fail miserably as usual in the World Cup.

They will prove yet again, that great players don't always make great sides.

I am so certain they will not win, if they do, i will eat the odour eaters that have been in my trainers for the last 3 years and post a picture here to prove it.

what great goal by peter crouch. joe cole was amazing on the day, beckham too, it was a postive result.

Yes, but when it really matters, they will fail.

Ok Thal, I'll hold you to your promise! Come on England, do it for Thal!!!

That was an amazing goal by crouch, but it seemed like it came from pure luck rather than pure skill. Though by saying that I'm not taking away the glory of it, cos it was amazing luck/skill that it hit the post and bounced in. And Beckham really was on top form; though I think he's getting a little bit too cocky, much like he was against Argentina (in either '98 or '02) when he was on the ground and kicked that guy in the leg and got sent off for it. I think this because he did a similar thing in this match, though it seemed more like an accident. After it he was laughing it off when the ref was coming up to him, so I really hope he doesn't get too cocky like this in the world cup.

That was an amazing goal by crouch.

It is amazing he can even stand up, coz he has got 2 pipe cleaners for legs.

Yeah he's quite lanky, and I thought that might get in the way of his playing but...it seems the opposite! He did a great pass - it completely fooled the opposing player, and me aswell!

I think you might have gotten confused; though are you sure? I was talking about the match against Argentina when he kicked a guy when he was down, and got sent off for it. The match last night was with Hungary.

Are you getting confused, or was I wrong?

i remember that game when beckham was sent off, he was cocky last night you right. i think what thalberg means is that hungary are no force to be reckoned with. when england won i said "who's Hungary-in football that is?" i think they are nobody.
my national team would lose 5-0 to hungary :'(. we suck.

Let's see that four years from now.

Well, I think it would be a really bad mistake to take only three offence players. And that is totally true if two of them are injured(I remember Owen was injured, not sure if he still is) and a 17 year old guy that never played a match in the first team.

I mean, 'our' team almost selected four strikers plus four wingers. I think a team should have at least two players on every position.

ashley cole looks done for, overweight and slow, gary neville has thigh strain, dont know how serious, Young pulled out for dawson to come in. the full backs might be a prob for england. they should have taken along darren bent, defoe, harewood, walcot belongs in a cot as far as wc football goes.
i havent been following the build up to the wc. i have no idea who the dark horses are and surprise packages etc. i think from africa angola are going to be killed, ivory coast will be pretty tough, so will ghana.
i have a feeling the ukraine ,might do well, with a little help from Shevchenko.
i am actually going to do my homework now about all the participating teams, i'm a bit lost.

Ukrane might be strong. Also, maybe Japan can suprise. I have heard they played very strong against germany.

Ukraine under 21 (or rather 23,5) did very well and they are now in the half finals. Maybe they will become a major football nation.

Ivory Coast in in 'the poule of death' together with Argentine, Netherlands and Servie-Montenegro. So yes, they are probably the strongest African team. But they chances aren't that big. At least they shouldn't be. Accoring to polls 72% of the people agree that Argentine and the Netherlands will make it to the second round.

I also think Ronaldinho may be out of shape after a though season already. Same with Henry. He usually is weaker in the latter phase of the season. But this season he had an injury early on. This is also one of the reasons why Arsenal usually didn't do that well in the Champions League. But then again, he did play an ok match this night.

So yes, I do think there will be a dark horse and the dark horse will be a country with medicore players that have played much less matches this season than the superstars. There are some candidates for this. But they will need to be a strong unit, play well organised, tactically and positionally strong and able to exploit game continuations like corners and free kicks. So maybe Ukraine. Though I don't remember their poule.

Idiot. Maybe Liverpool had some luck in the final but so did Milan, everybody has some luck. But just what kinds of teams Liverpool did beat before they met Milan:
Chelsea, Juventus and more.

Pluss to turn 3-0 into 3-3 needs a team-moral beyond comprehension.

at the end of the day liverpool play clean football and blame the FA and FIFA for not implementing TV refereeing for important decisions. otherwise, thats just the way of the cookie, and thats football.

Last years CL final should have been Chelsea - PSV.

I saw this poll somewhere. I just had to laught:

Does Oranje(the Netherlands) make an good impression in the preperation of the WC?
47%   Yes, absolutely
36%   Moderately
12%   Not really
6%   No, absolutely not

Actually, when I saw the numbers it was 36, 36, 19, 10. Seems that both matches of last night increased confidence. But of course with those numbers it is easier to see that something was wrong. And I instantly did, though I was not sure what was wrong.
