are you for, or against it, and what other views do you hold about this 'alternative piano forum'?

its always interesting to have an outsiders view of what is interesting, offputting, good, and bad..about the forum.

The only thing that I don't like about daSDC is that there  are almost no active posters, and sometimes there isn't a new post in a board for a week. Some recruiting might be nice.

most posters are inactive because most people there just sign up to leech stuff out of the recordings section. most people there dont really care about the random and interesting convos there, they just wanna get their "hands" on some free recs. but yes, this website does breathe some new life into classical music. it brings it from an elitist level to an urbanized kinda level. i mean, where else would you see a "wud u hit it?" forum on a classical music forum site?

hahahah some people are under the impression that daSDC displays "Asinine behaviour, acting like frat boys putting people through a non-stop hazing exercise" to quote someone from GFF refering to the treatment trumofo/daziff/mkaykov/etc. This is far from the truth. The user who wrote that has no idea about the other side of that story.  He/she is the same as the "Rap is NOT Music" people we have here.

Hahahaha IB proves way mo den SAT.  Any random chink can score perfect on da SATs but it takes a true pregnant cat to pazz da IB exam, particularly wizz da numerous 35+ scores we haz gotten.  U obviously haff no idea how much work is involved wizz da IB program.

it depends what you have taken the IB in. Plus the guy i know doing physics IB, his syllabus does not even compare to mine. IBs SATs dont mean anything. neither do A-levels. i can spout off about my 99% in my last maths module but it dont mean anything, it is not intelligence or intellect, im not proud of it. i know people passing 7 A-levels (standard is 3) who cant string a sentence together in any debate or any sort.

although i dont think there is anything wrong or particularly offensive with the Afro-carribean talk, i decided to show a friend of mine, who is black, to see what he thought. he is not a musician, so he did not base his opinions around any circles of debate going on in the forum, but he said this : "i dont find it offensive, i just think it's well sad". an SDC member before said that by criticizing the black style of talking on the forum, you are disrespecting black people in general and their style of talking. i find this quite weird, because although a majority of black people talk like this, they dont type like this.

Generally I don't mind da SDC itself, though I will admit... I do wish the community would be comfortable enough in their own skin to let other forums exist as their own identity.  Just like it seems they want from other people.

Actually, if you were to categorize it in any way, it would more resemble country talk.

Or hillbilly

what the hell makes you think a majority of black people talk in this manner? No black people talk like this.

A little of this and a little of that, maybe.

This forum's language is exaggerated beyond slightly.

In fact any normal language is filtered then printed out in the strange manner that is prevailent in the forum.

my statement was not condemning nor criticizing the SDC, i just thought it would be interesting to see what a black person would say about it. and no, i am not a woman, so he dont want to get in my pants, and why assume straight away that he wants to act cool? nor did i press my opinion upon him whilst asking the question, it was asked in a neutral fashion.

and the statement i made : "an SDC member before said that by criticizing the black style of talking on the forum, you are disrespecting black people in general and their style of talking. i find this quite weird, because although a majority of black people talk like this, they dont type like this." was just something i wanted to add to the ridiculous argument produced by an SDC member a while ago.

also why the : "i see you have found a source of credibility"?

too much touchiness in your post to take it seriously.

my statement was not condemning nor criticizing the SDC, i just thought it would be interesting to see what a black person would say about it. and no, i am not a woman, so he dont want to get in my pants, and why assume straight away that he wants to act cool? nor did i press my opinion upon him whilst asking the question, it was asked in a neutral fashion.

and the statement i made : "an SDC member before said that by criticizing the black style of talking on the forum, you are disrespecting black people in general and their style of talking. i find this quite weird, because although a majority of black people talk like this, they dont type like this." was just something i wanted to add to the ridiculous argument produced by an SDC member a while ago.

also why the : "i see you have found a source of credibility"?

Source of credibility -

There appears to be a notion that the language on the SDC site is black talk. You asked a black if it was offensive. Congratulations. You found a source of credibility.

But it's not black talk, so was his opinion really necessary ;)

too much touchiness in your post to take it seriously.

It's not touchy. It's the truth. You might not be female but that guy did  tell you his response in order to be "cool." I can say without doubt that if he were a free thinker, his opinion would have been different. Not saying hed like it. But the fashion in which your quote indicates he delivered the statement shows alot. Unless you missquoted him.

untru. the only word filtered now is the word, "slow" changed to "sl*w"

So it would seem

anyway, there are at least two active black members in dasdc; obviously they are not offended.

There are members with a little too much "er" in their ***. How hard is it to type an "a."

yea, i see what you are saying. the reason why i got the idea of it being "black talk" was because there was a debate on this a while ago in which an SDC member, who was posting his opinions, said "what is the problem with talking in the black lingo. if you are saying it is wrong, then you have a problem with black people". so i assumed this was what the forum was doing, since this statement came from an SDC poster (cant remember who).

what i dont get though, is why you assume straight away that the guy who i asked this question is trying to be cool?

as the founder of da SDC and one of the pivotal figures in the evolution of the society, i feel i am more than qualified to extol the reasons it came to be the way it is.

the lingo firstly developed in msn chats between me and the 2 other high ranking chairmen of da SDC - da ZEPP and da MART.

the reasons for the development of this lingo was manifold; it was fun above all, and it was a way to seperate us from the legions of 'normal' piano lovers.

the utterly oxymoronical irony of talking in this lingo about classical music, is of course funny at first; and it was feared by some that it would get old.
surprisingly, to some, it never did, as it wasnt a novelty.
far from it; it was a fundamental badge of honour, it is spoken with pride, and with unabashed mofoness.

the members who use this lingo are fully aware of what many people think of this lingo, but instead of worrying about those it may offend or those who roll their eyes, the members think of it as a filter.

an SDC member must be of a certain disposition ( but by all means this does not preclude the astonishing diversity of personalities within the community), and the lingo acts as a filter to keep out those who arent cut out to be a 'true pregnant cat'.

lest it be thought that, as others have assumed, da SDC is a forum for dim-wits....on the extreme contrary - to understand whats going on takes a supreme amount of cognitive fortitude.

this 'pregnant cat lingo' keeps at bay those with prejudice, those without humour, and those who believe style negates substance.
