Asparagus, anybody?
on: June 23, 2006, 04:31:17 PM
I'm trying to expand my cooking repertoire a bit and among my groceries today bought some asparagus... but I have no idea how to prepare it or what to serve it with!

Any ideas/recipies would be lovely!

however, my mother came in and saw this thread and says:

"technically speaking, you are supposed to boil it in an asparagus pan (narrow, tall, upright pan that the asparagus stands in, as the tips cook faster than the stalks). but failing that, bring to the boil and simmer until stalks are tender. drain well and dry off with a clean tea-towel (or paper towel) and serve with hollondaise sauce or melted butter"

"yum yum"  <------ I doubt it

well, if you want tasty asparagus, I lay them on a cookie sheet drizzle a bit of butter or olive oil on them and sprinkle some salt on them.  I throw them in the oven for ~15 minutes, I think (just until the tips are a little crispy & their bright green) They are so good, oh my god, even people that hate asparagus like them this way,  I've converted alot of people with this little dealy!

Asparagus is one of my favorite vegetables. I highly recommend it. I did hate it when I was a child though. I guess it’s an acquired taste.

However, it does give your urine a foul smell for about 12 hours after you consume the asparagus. I know, you didn’t need to hear that – but it’s true.

Best, John :)

i don't mind asparagus, not a huge fan of the texture of the top part. But make sure you cook it properly, crunchy/stringy asparagus is a pain

chop it into pieces and sautee it with onion and mushrooms until tender. maybe toss in some minced garlic, too. good stuff.

Don't eat too much asparagus if you have a GF, it makes your semen taste bitter and skanky and horrible.
