Art of the Fugue sheet music with fingering
on: June 30, 2006, 10:48:33 PM
Dear friends, I need your help. I'm trying to find an edition of the Art of the Fugue with fingering directions written in. I'm too lazy to work out my own fingering - and we all know fingering in Bach is crucial. If you have it, could you be so benevolent as to upload it here and thus engage in some illegal behavior? I can try to get you something in return.

Blessings and have a beautiful day.

I don't have it "illegally" but find a printed version of Busoni's edition, he has good fingerings for that work.

My first post here...I've actually recently begun learning the Art of the Fugue (almost done with the third contrapunctus).
steveie986:
While looking for a volume of the Art of the Fugue, I ran into a similar problem...no urtext editions with fingering?  But after buying a fingering-free Henle and learning the first fugue, I realized why it was published this way--the fingerings that I was forced to use were unlike any I've used before!  4 5 4, 1-5--you name it, I quickly discovered my (sore) fingers stretching and crawling across the keyboard.  Learning and playing each of these fugues is like solving a puzzle, and solving the fingering is part of the experience!  Looking back on it, I know that most of my fingerings are unorthodox and very personal.  I'm glad that I didn't have to cross out any editor's suggestions.

Perhaps you can watch this video of the Art of Fugue and get some ideas on fingering:

This is indeed a precious link....
"This composition by Bach is played on Electronic Organ by well known Transvestite Fashion Super Model and Amateur Musician - Miss Denise Hewitt

*** Denise is wearing a Classic Chanel Style Woven Mini-Skirt for this performance of the Art of Fugue by J.S. Bach"

Miss Denise is a classic.

I've worked out my own fingering for Contrapunctus I, but I'm not very satisfied with it. Using the correct fingering is absolutely crucial in contrapuntal music. If you choose a slower tempo, you can get away with some dodgy fingering, but a faster tempo requires ergonomically correct fingering.

Poems of Ecstasy – Scriabin’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

The great early 20th-century composer Alexander Scriabin left us 74 published opuses, and several unpublished manuscripts, mainly from his teenage years – when he would never go to bed without first putting a copy of Chopin’s music under his pillow. All of these scores (220 pieces in total) can now be found on Piano Street’s Scriabin page. Read more
