air national guard band of the mid-atlantic
on: July 01, 2006, 03:10:52 AM
ok.  ur all not geeks anymore.  if u saw this band dancing and playing k-cee and the sunshine band's - 'get down tonight,' 'that's the way,' and something else -- u'd see what i mean.  unfortunately, i think i love geeks.  they played sooo cool and even if they danced hilariously - it was ok because they played so good.

the euphonium player played a solo from the 'carnival of venice' which was amazing and then at the end played the same solo with one finger and used a tonguing technique.  he put on this glove so everyone could see that he could only play with one finger (the only finger sticking out).

they played a lot of classical stuff, too.  i liked gaspar cipado's tocatta,  vaughn williams 'rhosymedre, clare grundman's concord (medley of early american music), and especially a very jazzy version of 'amazing grace' by luther henderson.  you wouldn't believe it if u heard it.  it made everyone laugh because of it's ridiculous excursions.

Not a great fan of bands.

A friend of mine used to be in the "Basildon Blue Eagles" and I had to go and watch them compete at a marching band competition.

This was 20 years ago and my ears have never been the same since.

Just for the "benefit"(?!) of "pianistimo", Basildon is in Essex, not far from Clacton...

Indeed, slap bang in the middle of "White Stiletto" country.

Might start an Essex girls thread.

women of the big band era also wore white stilletos.  someday when you're a few years older - something will hit you and you will start loving big bands.  (or maybe not).  it doesn't happen to everyone i guess. :'(

Oh, PLEASE don't do that. Apart from any other reason, we surely don't want to discourage "pianistimo" from making her pèlerinage to Clacton, do we?!

should i bring a can of mace?  pelerinage - pilrimage?  should i expect a spiritual revival in essex?  maybe i'll bring some tracts along.  (usually i don't do this - since they never seem to do much convincing just because there's cross on the front).  but, if they get really strange - maybe i'll hold the cross in front of my head and walk around.  perhaps i would fit in that way?

where's the bike trails?  did the usual 20 miles yesterday.

ok. out of curiousity i wikipediad 'essex girl' -  'she wears white slingbacks and drives a white ford fiesta.  she is a heavy drinker (usually of cheap fizzy wine) and socializes in cheap pubs and bars.  she dances around her handbag so it will not be stolen.'  very curious indeed.

i'm a few steps up from this - and if i don't say much i can be mistaken for something on the higher end of suburbian housewife.  am very sensitive to smoke and bars and pubs.  in fact, i could say that i have a fairly low tolerance to alcohol.  although lately i've been known to ask for more shots of vodka to my 'white russians' in restaurant settings.  this makes me forget that i have children occasionally - but i only drink them with my husband.

say, does anyone know where hillary clinton got the saying: 'it takes a whole village to raise a child?'  just wondering.  if a child was raised in essex what would happen?

**could it be any worse than my daughers naked barbies being under the bathroom trash can as a sort of 'cage.'  where did she see this?  i'm wondering if my 16 year old son was watching something he shouldn't have on tv.  we had to go to the toy store to get some more clothing for these barbies and talk about things.  but, what do you say to a four year old about not putting cage trash cans over barbies.

I should think that's just about the lasst thing you'd expect to experience there.

maybe i'll bring some tracts along.
I wouldn't if I were you - I'd save on cabin baggage weight instead...

That's just about the size of the usual caricature, yes...

I should hope so!

hmm.  my children actually are 'white russians' - but no, i don't drink them.  they have russian names, though.  misha, alexis, ivana.  they come every 5-6 years when we throw out the crib and baby paraphenalia.
