Excellent. It proves that not all bodybuilders are mutton heads.

Perhaps he has more chance of winning the Tchaikovsky than Mr Olympia.

Wasn't there a thread a few months ago about Bodybuilding!?

If I'm right; most people said that developing big muscles would work against your "piano" skills. Also, I remember someone saying that your speed would decrease... I think this video proofs a little that that's not the case.

Btw, be sure you check this video of him too, he plays Scriabin Etude Op. 65 No. 3:

I never said he wasn't big, he's definitely big, but I said he's not big enough to be a professional, like the ones you see on TV.

There are different classifications for body builders, like in boxing. Not all of them are 300 lbs.

Are you aware that there are people in this world that have a severe medical condition which causes them to be that way? My mother for instance is one of those people. She is a truck driver that has bad knees and a bad back from driving the truck but you probably do not care about that case either. Oh well I am not one of those people I am 6'4" 245lbs and I exercise every day. I would love to see you say something like to my mother in front of me. Probably never happen though you are probably just an internet tough guy. I doubt very seriously you would say that to someones face. Just my thought. What do you think. Oh I am sorry you probably do not have a brain. I on the other hand will be happy to buy you a plane ticket to come here and see if you have the nerve to say that to someone I know.

I realy do, sorry. :) But, that how it is if you want to play nice sounding ff.
Usaly piano players then use strength, and that doesnt work.
BRAVO, if you know and you do use all your body's weight, than ff can sound too realy nice.

Body building definitely screwed up my violin abilities about 5 years ago; it made me tense, and I am sure that it would do the same to piano, except with piano i believe it would particularly screw up octave technique.

I want to see the bodybuilder play octaves, then I'll start lifting again, until then, no way.

Am I the only one that finds his piano playing utterly terrible?  Sure he plays fast, but that's about all he's got going for him.  I'm really perplexed at how he's apparently got all these audiences paying money to see him.

Who are you comparing him to, Horowitz?? I don't think terrible is an appropriate word to describe him at all. Techincally alone, he's outstanding. Maybe his musicality isn't to your liking (not to mine either), but the guy has serious chops.

And the point is, he excels at two completely opposite fields, and that is impressive.

forget all the bodybuilder talk and whether he sounds good or not,

what transcription of the Minute Waltz is that?

I thought it was fabulous with all the additions to it.

does he also ride a horse?

very interesting.  what happens to that rag that gets thrown down inside the piano (hitting the keys, i imagine)  why does it not dampen the sound or get caught on  a hammer.  makes me think that it is an edited clip.  especially since no sight of the keyboard/hands was given on the first clip.  i really liked the jazzed up arrangement.

is he for real?  usually, i thought the tension from extra muscle mass would get in the way.  maybe he's unusual in that he can really relax himself and has extremely good fine dexterity as well as general motor skills.  i like his balance and posture.  he also seems to pull from the solar plexus.  as someone else said - the idea of needing muscle to play the piano is not true.  you need very fast neural connections.  the only weight you need for triple forte is the weight of your hand and perhaps leaning forward a little.

I imagine he placed the rag over the folded down music stand.

That reminds me of this girl I met at work some time ago.  She came out of some years of university and had to take a temporary job as a painter.  She was surprised to meet construction workers and find they all have dreams and goals in life and were actively pursuing them.  The academic culture saw construction workers as unmotivated and stupid...  Which is only sometimes the case, heheh.

I tend to see the 'intellectual' as more of an image or a person's general interests (going for things like chess and books instead of cars and clothing).  One of the most intellegent people I know is more of a meathead in his interests.
