if you think of this movement in terms of hand positions its much easier.

instead of thinking of it 'finger by finger', rather think of it as controlled 'rips', and then just practise the changing hand positions. will be much easier!

thank u for that! yes, i'm applying that already and it makes things easier. i pattern my practice exercises to that goal of knwing groups of notes as hand positions to speed me up and avoid stopping.

Q: how much clarity is needed? do you prefer a little articulated than a little blurry? sometimes my problem is i tend to blur notes because of the speed.

Practice it cross-handed (no joke--it's an effective technique for working on unison passages).

Maybe that`s why Berman played it like that ;)

Thanks for the tips.

Try to play it in reverse: forte <-> piano; legato <-> staccato (as shortest as possible). Also, playing in different octaves often helps.

These two ways of practising are good for memorising.

i just did a mind-draining-memory-effective-sort-of-stupid practice for this movement.hahaha. since they were all running 8ths in parallel motion (octave) for both hands...

i played the RH one 8th note AHEAD of the LH from beginning to end at M.M. 100=quarter. then i tried two 8th notes AHEAD of the LH, and this was a little more difficult.

then i did the opposite.. this time the LH plays one 8th note AHEAD of the RH. then i also tried two 8th notes AHEAD of the RH.

it sure helped me a lot to play A TEMPO without stopping. ;D tomorrow i shall try 3 notes ahead, then 4, then 5... hahaha. it sure is fun to challenge the mind!

Thanks for the tips.

He could play it hands crossed in 55 seconds...as a stunt, I presume.
