Do you snack while practicing?
on: August 19, 2006, 09:15:16 PM
Sometimes i can't help it; i really want to play but i'm hungry at the same time. so my preferred snack is little oatmeal raisin cookies from trader joe's ;D and yes, i use a napkin so i don't soil the keys.

I dont usually snack, but i regularly have a beer on the go.

I play better after a few pints. Or, perhaps i dont care how i sound after a few pints.

Today I was eating caramel corn while playing, and a few days ago had slices of pizza ontop of the piano

To me, a piano practicing snacker
is the ultimate pianist slacker
they'll never become a great hacker
whilst munching upon their cracker

And those who munch on a cookie
will never find a good bookie
they'll always been seen as a rookie,
a pianist who plays practice hooky

The same goes for drinking the beer
their practice just isn't austere
in spite that they might persevere
their playing will sound insincere

So snack if you must
just don't die with disgust
when you trip on the crust
of the pizza you lust

Greetings.

A snack. What a wonderful word. So full of delights. Glittering candy, a lollipop green, so full of deception, but innocent seems. The candy is mellow, as sweet as a sound, your rotten teeth yellow, and thus on the ground. So few as so great as the candy bar cane, delightfully numbing your prim ridden brain. For what do we know of the scrumptuous pies, that could be as well a house hold for flies. Enough with the fruit, bananas be gone, instead we should eat, the food of a bum. Instead of the healthy we eat what we dare, as much as we could, not with a care. So why might one ask we eat as we do, the food is a mask that could contain poo.

sometimes i snack on gum while playing, just the sugar of the gum, not the base...

Ingredients:
1/3 cup Gum Base
3/4 cup Powdered Sugar
3 tablespoons Corn Syrup
1 teaspoon Glycerine
1/2 teaspoon Citric Acid
5 drops Flavoring

Directions:

Into a microwave safe or heat resistant dish, place the Gum Base, Citric Acid, Corn Syrup with Glycerine and flavoring mixture.

Microwave Method: Place all of the gum base into a microwave safe dish. Heat the gum base on high for 1 minute. Remove the gum base from the oven and stir it. If it has not melted, place it back in the oven and heat for 30 more seconds. Stir it again and repeat heating until the gum base is gooey.

Stove top Method: Place the gum base in a heat resistant dish that will fit in a sauce pan of boiling water. Cover the pan and bring the water to a boil. Turn the heat down so the water is at a simmer. Heat the gum base until it becomes gooey. This can take up to 10 minutes. Be sure not to let the water boil dry.

Measure out 1 heaping tablespoon of powdered sugar and set it aside for later. Pour out about one half of the remaining powdered sugar onto your work surface. Make a well in the middle of the pile.

Pour the melted gum base mixture into the well. The gum base may still be hot but it will cool quickly.

Dip your fingers in the powdered sugar and begin kneading the gum base and sugar together. Work it as if your are kneading bread dough. Add more of the powdered sugar when ever the dough gets sticky. Continue adding sugar until you have a smooth, stiff dough. You must knead the gum dough until all the sugar is worked in. This will take at least 15 minutes. The more kneading the better. Kneading too little will cause the gum to break up when chewed.

Now it's time to roll out your bubble gum and cut it into pieces. You can make a rope about 1/2 inch in diameter and then cut individual pieces about 1/2 inch long. Using a scissors make this very easy. If you like your gum in sticks, roll out the gum with a rolling pin and then cut out the strips with your scissors.

Dust all of the gum pieces with the tablespoon of powdered sugar we set aside. Store your bubble gum in a ziplock bag. You can wrap individual pieces in wax paper too!

This recipe for Make Your Own Bubble Gum serves/makes .5 lb.

I don't know if this qualifies as a snack but I always chew on ice when I practice. It's a very bad habit :)

Snacking whilest practicing isn't exactly a good idea. First of all, it will distract you and you will lose the concentration, hence your practicng will be faulty. That's the biggest concern in my opinion: distraction. Second of all, snacking will tempt you to eat more, therefore distracting you from practicing. Third of all, snacking may leave your hands dirty or slimy, making it harder to to play and dirtying up the keyboard.

Have a snack before practicing, or better yet, eat.

i have this 'sticky key' revulsion, too.  always, hands are washed.  but, a milkshake is my ok thing to have nearby.

besides, here in pa we have ants.  they like cookie crumbs.  so, it's better not to have any.

I NEVER snack while eating. Those tidbits make my piano keys sticky, candy disturbs my concentration, and I don't drink. (Well of course not)

i snack in between practice sessions ie. every hour. But i have either a glass of water or some tea next to my piano so that i can keep hydrated (water) or just feel comfortable while practicing (tea). Beer only on friday afternoon during my last practice session.

I hate sticky keys and dirty pianos.  Hence no food or drink is ever allowed to be in the direct vacinity of the piano.  If so much as a flower vase get's put on the piano that person will experience first hand what a class 5 hurricane is.

----

ok so ya snacking... let's see.  what about chocolate fudge brownies with some Boston Cream doughnuts, watermellon to wash it all down.  Haha now you have multi-coloured keys.

You are too kind for playing a recital.  A local radio station here plays avant-garde from 12 AM to 4 AM.  I'd just rent a sound system and put it on full blast.
