Do you blog?
on: August 30, 2006, 09:31:09 AM
Who here blogs, and if you do, why and what about?

Do you generally find other people's blogs interesting?

Do you feel strange about exposing yourself to the entire online community? Are there privacy issues? Or is this a generational thing?

I'm interested.

I do not right a blog because:

I don't want people to know about my life
I can't think of a soul that would actually be interested in my life
They are a waste of my time
I don't care about other people's small little lives
and I cannot stand the word blog, I think it's an ugly word

I once had an illumination of trying to do a blog, not really to tell about my life but to state my opinions about the world in a cynical-humoristic way, somehow in a similar way as Dilbert's creator, Scott Adams ( https://dilbertblog.typepad.com/ ).
Soon I figured out that it took talent, inspiration and time, none of which I have. In the mean time I found out that the most popular blogs in the blog hosting site I chose were the sex-oriented blogs. So my blog veered quickly into a X-rated one, and became fairly popular as well, lol... After a while I just killed it.

you killed it?  you leave much to the imagination as does ingagroznya.

exactly how did you kill the blog?

i've also seen blogs that died.  you look at the date and it's 2001 or something.  what if a person actually did die and then their blog died?

my blogging is all done randomly through different threads on piano forum.  if i put them all together -they would form a sort of blog of my decline from playing well, to breaking my leg, to playing poorly and having to start from scratch again.  it's a cycle.  everything is a cycle.  in all blogs you see cycles.  the person is motivated.  they either do something or just talk about it.  the ones that are doing something stop blogging for months at a time and then come back to it in the midst of a snowstorm.

Greetings.

Just what in the world is a "blog"? This word drives me nuts. I hate that word Blog, blog! Generally speaking I detest the very many facets of internet. People can just post whatever they want, read whatever they want. I hate the way so many people just go around and posting endlessly on the internet about nothing. The internet does provide knowledge, and I appreciate that, but otherwise, the internet is not something I like. I do like the music provided on the internet though.

Instead of writing a blog I just blurt out all my opinions, comments and personal insults here.

I'm actually too busy to write a blog.  Or to say that another way, I do so many different things that if I wrote down everything I was doing I wouldn't have any time left to actually do them.

I have just today started a piano log however.  This was sparked by a suggestion made by Bernhard in one of his infinite posts he's always linking too.  I read a lot of Bernard's stuff.  Not to sound arrogant but most of what he says is stuff I already know enough to do, but hearing someone else say it brings it back into focus.

In one of his posts he suggested to write down what you've accomplished in every practice session so that you can readily see your progress.   I think this also helps to keep you on track.  So I just started writing down my accomplishments today.  Not much.  I moved forward 6 measures on the right-hand and 2 measures on the left hand today in a difficult part of Fur Elise.  But, hey, that's a total of 8 measures further ahead than I was yesterday. ;D

Today was a very bad day for me overall though.  I'm having very bad health and mental problems today.  But not to worry.  There are good days and bad days and more good days are coming down the pike I'm sure. ;)

In a normal day I would have a lot more accomplishments on other pieces to write down. But 8 measures on one piece is pretty good I think.  At least for me it is.  That really only took about 20 minute total.  Today was a sickly day for me.  Maybe tomorrow will be better.  The fact that I made any forward progress today at all should be celebrated.

There, you just got a micro-blog into one day of my sickly life.  ::)

I deleted (one by one) the about 60 entries.

Why do you do "blogs"? I would utterly detest someone having access to my life.

Some think the mundane is interesting.  Just as some prefer privacy.

Have you ever tried to talk about nothing?  If you do it long enough it may develop into a really intersting conversation.

blog is like a diary that everyone can access, but i'm thinking it will be good if we can 'blog' but not publicate it, so it's like our personal diary in the PC that have a password but with backgrounds, links, etc, not just like typing each day in the microsoft word or something like that. do you know any program or link for this?

"Blog" is short for Weblog. I have one that I use to keep in touch with family on the other side of the world. It's better than writing e-mails to everyone individually. I have another public one on myspace but nothing spectacular.

People also use weblogs to record world news and events, to inform other people, for propaganda purposes. To basically vent their perspectives on for example what they see on the news, what they think of it etc..
I just started a weblog like that, i hope to get people interested in pressing issues around the world that i dont feel get the attention they deserve., it has not taken off properly yet. I have done no more than a declaration of intent, which is in effect useless, but i have some good ideas, and i hope it will work.
right now i am very busy studying for my course, i wish i had more time.
