Australian composers
on: July 29, 2002, 10:52:04 AM

I must admit that in the short history of australia and australian music, composers such as Carl Vine, Matthew Hindson, Sculthorpe, Carr-boyd, Edwards and many others have made an impression with their very diverse and interesting music. I'm trying to pick out some music that I like from australian composers for a concert. Does anyone have any ideas? I want something that isn't too "out there" but has its unique characterstics, thanks in advance for all suggestions.

I know it's been played ten thousand times but Sefton Daly's "Brief Candles" is still very enjoyable if you like swing.

You might also like to consider some Miriam Hyde pieces.

I've chosen the Vine sonata to play for my recital. Has anyone played this piece? Any suggestions on recordings?
