Planning studytour to NYC

So, we are a group of pianists up here in the north of norway who decided to go on a studytour. The destination is sill uncertain, but for now it looks like New york is the main target. Im just wondering if any of you guys can give me some tips on schools, concert halls, how to find hotels\other places to stay, (we will be staying for about a week), is there anyone here studying in NYC? 

Any help would be much appreciated.

just one question.  can i come, too?  oh, and there's steinway hall.  you have to see that.  and, somewhere around is the bosendorfer show room. 

koji seems to know a lot about nyc.  and, contact carl cranmer to see when he is planning to already take a bus tour from west chester university.  several years in a row - we went to the steinway factory, to steinway hall, to julliard, to carnegie hall.  i would imagine that the more people going - the more they will get a better rate for music students at west chester.  not sure how many people he can take at one time or on one bus.  last time he drove everywhere and showed us how to get on the subway and get to where we needed to be.  we also visited the metropolitan museum of art.  it was really wonderful!

ps it would be a LOT cheaper for you to do day trips to NYC and then stay at dorms on/off campus at west chester.  nyc hotels are fairly expensive.  unless you want to just spend a wad.  west chester has a brand new music building with all steinways.

Thanks susan, new york is certainly an option, we are also considering paris, berlin and moscow.

enjoy your trip!  my husband is going to paris.  if i went, i would want to visit the paris conservatory.  all the places you mentioned would take more than a week, imo.  but, i guess reality is that there's only so much money.

Too bad we have to pay for it ourselves

School only gives us like 50% of travel expenses.

wow!  50%.  i thought you were paying for it completely on your own.  that's really super great.  with terrorism, etc - i'd stay close to home.  i'm not much of a risk taker anymore.  plus, the indiginities of travelling.  do any of you speak french or german?  i'm sort of a 'safe' traveller.  i'd want to have a sort of guide along.  i'd feel really strange in a foreign country with noone that spoke and noone who knew where anything was.
