downsizing my piano
on: October 24, 2006, 02:18:59 AM
I have a Steinway L. We may be downsizing our home and lifestyle in a few years.
(as in - small retirement house/condo.) Is there such thing as a good, satisfying small piano? Acrosonic or spinet? Upright? I'd even be open to a keyboard if it were truly good.
Any experiences?

Keep the L. It's not that big. Even a 10 x 12 foot room will work.

Agreed, keep the L. You can always remove a sofa, but a quality piano is just that. You will hate yourself for getting rid of it. You will probably find it hard going from such an instrument to one of lesser quality, and that your music will lack that extra something.

Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

Buy one of those cheap plastic 61-key keyboards. They're lightweight, you can store it in a closet, and the springy keys will be a good workout for your finger muscles. You'll get used to the "pingy" digital sound after a while too. You'll adjust.
In the meantime you can ship the Steinway L. to me and I'll take real good care of it for you.

You've all twisted my arm! I'll keep it!!! Now to convince the husband.
hmmmmm!
In fact, I was recently visiting a home with a small living room and I was envisioning how the L would fit. Who needs a sofa, anyway!! yea, I'd hate myself!
thanks, friends!
