the ego of mei ting
on: October 28, 2006, 10:00:53 AM
MTS has written in several posts on several piano related forums that he is ashamed and embarrassed to be a member of a board where such idiots post so he quit posting there.  This was on piano society (what happened to that place recently anyway?; it sux donkey ballz now but used to have a pretty cool forum, like there's so many for piano yanno?) and it was also on here and the other piano forum.  He even made Piano Society remove all his recordings so he could go off and start the pretentious, exclusive whitekeys which, I guess, he started so he could get away from all us "idots" and have his recordings only were he thinks they're worthy of being which is not sitting next to any recordings from us mere mortals....and of course warsaw just *had* to be a conspiracy cuz who would dare think the great MTS wouldn't win?.....maybe it's just cuz he's an overrated, arrogant, elitist?.....I know ego is necessary to some degree in a performer but imho this snob is way over the top...and for that reason I think some defeat would do him good-build some character, maturity, insight, empathy, depth, humility etc....

Yes but lets be honest he is a million light years ahead of most pianists on this forum, to be honest you dont win the WICPC unless you are F*ck*ng good which he is, and no it would'nt suprise me if he would get very board with as mortals.

It's arrogant to post it for sure...  I'm sure most professionals just quietly disappear.  But there's some truth, public forums become boring after a while.

There's quite a bit to be learned, and interesting people, but so far as music is concerned I get a sense of stagnation...  Too much talking, too little insight.  Not enough people out there participating in music.

Just a theory, and I'm not picking on this place in particular, but any public forum.

he did put a question mark near the nancarrow piece on his repertoire list.  what is funny - is that i tend to believe that he actually has this repertoire list and is actively increasing it - whilst we talk.

If I was only one percent as good as he is, I surely would be the most arrogant c**** (whatever these stars mean  ;D ) of the world.  8) 8) 8)

You can't blame others not to be Kempff, Cortot, Rubin- or Einstein

Well I value and place Kempff, Cortot and Rubinstein way above some one like MT. However from what i have heard and seen, they were much more humble and down to earth than this guy.

he may be a technical wiz (and who, at that level, isn't these days?) but what i've heard of his playing struck me as musically flat and didn't make me feel a damn thing-I personally woulnd't buy, attend, or even d/l for that matter, anything of his.

You guys are sure it was that guy? An adult with normal brains just quits typing and wouldnt make some silly childish thread why he is stopping.

And there are loads of liszts, Rachmaninoffs and Chopins surfing around on this forum, i'm pretty sure the real ones died some time ago.

PS. Im not that furry little thing from the Gremlins either......

I am reminded of a joke I read in this forum a while ago.
"How many pianists does it take to change a light bulb?'
"only one, but the rest to pregnant dog about how badly he did it"
(something like that).

Dont quite know why he developed himself an ego - was a complete waste of time.  He's ok but frankly on the international circuit - rank and file! The world is unlikely to turn out for his farewell concert - put it that way. Sorry, but its the sad fact there are plenty of great pianists in the world without having to construct egos..you tend to find the ones who are really good are exceptionally modest of their abilities and surprised at fame.. If you go into music thinking your the best your gonna have a hard time all your life decieving yourself - there's always someone around the corner who plays your repertoire better - or at least as well. If you get hung up about such things you will have a breakdown. Although I hope of course this never happens to Mei Ting sun hopefully he'll have the wind gently let out of his sails.
