"hit me with your best shot"

whoever answers must post the next lyrics for us to guess.

Any chance we can keep Reba Mcentire out of this?

You mentioned it, so presumably not  ;)

how about this:

"Be quiet, stop chattering,
and pay attention to what's taking place"  :)

I meant keeping quotations from her "lyrics" out of it; I certainly haven't cited any of them!...

Not entirely; I agree that I've not identified the authorship of an extract from a song lyric in an earlier post and then posed another for another contributor to identify, but what I have written instead does at least refer to the subject of song lyrics (which, incidentally, is not actually in your thread title but only in your original post to this thread)...

Here is more from the same piece (OK not strictly a song, but sung  :) )

"You wicked child, you disobedient girl,
oh! when will I get my way "

I wouldn't waste your valuable time on that, if I were you! I knew nothing of Ms Spare-tire until reading that noxious piece of "Jesus-wants-me-for-a-sunbeam" stuff, courtesy of pianistimo. If she really is a "great actor" who has a genuinely "funny show", then she would surely be best advised to explore the talents that she has, rather than publicly expose the versifying ones that she patently has not...

Here's some more

"Father, don't be so severe!
  If I can't drink
my bowl of coffee three times daily,
then in my torment I will shrivel up
like a piece of roast goat."

perhaps it has lost something in the translation?  ::)

I'm not being negative here. If I were, I'd have said nothing even potentially positive about the person concerned; in the event, I suggested instead that she stick to the things at which you say she is good. I do indeed look for the good things in people; I just try to avoid pretending that they're good when it seems that they're not. Whilst I am not above the appropriate exercise of discretion, neither do I forget Delius's warning to his amanuensis Eric Fenby (which I quoted elsewhere on this forum recently) following their having listened to a broadcast of a piece of music together: "you knew it was bad - you should have said it was bad!"...

but whether someone is good or bad is just your opinion!      I may not like one person and you think they are the "best" and vice versa! It's all subjective!

yes! I'm talking about good or bad as far as someone's skill, singing ability, piano skills, etc.           It's subjective as to whether you like it or not.

OK, so we're on the same wavelength there, then; I was referring only to her lack of poetic skill and imagination and there are, after all, certain accepted standards (not that these are or should be thought of as the only possible measures) of technique in poetic writing, just as there are in musical composition and performance.
