I'll take all of Beethoven's and all of Bruckner's scherzi from any of their symphonies over any other scherzi, period! Yes!
I'll have to give number one more thought...if movement two of Brahms's 2nd Piano Concerto is considered a scherzo, then I'd say that's a scherzo quite fine! No more thought required.
As for number three...I'd say Chopin's in the order, 3, 4, 2, 1...or 4, 3, 2, 1. Shoot, play them all...does it really matter?
You yourself know you've faults with playing these scherzi all in a line on one program, Mr. "User named after conductor/composer Furtwängler who cries for your not picking any of the scherzi he's written..." You said four scherzi in a row is silly, even as you listened to Slava Richter deliver them masterfully, one after the other...
Hey, calm down, my sub conscience...these are mean shots. I love Furt's 3rd Symphony and always will.
