that's so sweet!  i think cats are better than dogs.  (sorry to start controversial subject again).  but, really - they make less messes - they are nicer (long term) and they generally are smarter.  biased, i know.

Found that on the back of a postcard in a post office in Yorkshire.

Very lucky you are to have dusty, and very lucky dusty is to have you. A cute kitty with an owner that loves it.
I have 2 staffies......they killed my cat Tommy.
I was very sad. But dogs will be dogs.

Absolutely correct! Or, in other words (as the old but still eminently pertinent cliché has it), "dogs have masters: cats have servants" - which certainly applies 50% here (and the only reason that it applies no more than 50% is because there are no dogs here - only two cats)...

Dusty's gorgeous... terribly photogenic!

I'm envious... I couldn't have pets when I was growing up because of my sister's assorted allergies and my built-in aversion to dogs - there were two of them lived up the road from me when I was small and used to terrorise every child in the neighbourhood, even now every time I meet a dog my inner three-year-old runs away crying in fear. With the notable exception of guide dogs, I've learned to love them via work. And now my lease says I'm not allowed pets... not even goldfish, how silly is that? Admittedly I never get checked up on, but a cat'd be quite hard to hide... unless it wanted to, obviously...

Yeah, you could try to make the cat hide but I doubt it would listen to you :P

Tis sucky that you can't have a cat. I hope one day you will be allowed :)

Thanks for the compliments. Dusty sends his love (he's on my lap right now, drooling away) ^_^

Supposedly cats are more likely to answer your call if their name ends in an 'eee' sound. Do your cats ever come to you when you call them? It would be interesting to know.

My two cats (third recently deceased  :'( ) certainly know their names, and will come when called only if they want to  ;)

But I think Marmalade thinks he's a dog.  He tends to follow one around the garden/fields.  Its quite bizaar - look around and there he his, quietly pacing along behind......

Still I suppose its his place and I am just there with his permission  ;D

My recently deceased kitten Quinny used to follow me around the garden too. She would try to make it look like she was interested in anything but me, so when she would be facing away from me I'd quickly walk away and would find her running after me when she realised I wasn't paying any attention to her. She was so adorable, bless her little white socks :)

I think Dusty is completely opposite to the cat stereotype. He doesn't jump on my lap if I say no, he doesn't jump on the table if I say no, he asks for attention and loves it when he gets it rather than knowing I will be affectionate and not appreciate it when I am. I think he thinks more of me as a god than himself. But he's so lovely, I wouldn't care if he became my master. I would beckon to his every call :)

We have three cats, jake and elwood, (the blues brothers), and worf, (startrek).

Cats are better than dogs.

Dogs are hard work, smell bad, and mostly very thick. (Only cute when young)
Cats are easy, smell nice and are mostly very intelligent. (Stay cute forever)

You can never own a Cat, it owns you  ;D

Plus, you never hear of a cat mauling children.

I wish I was a cat.

You really have got it bad! He probably already is your master, he's just letting you think it's the other way round. False sense of security, and so on... there'll be a masterplan behind it somewhere...

There's a stray tabby kitten that lives near my parents - well, I say kitten, it must be at least five by now but we first started seeing it when it was tiny, and it still behaves like one! - which keeps trying to stalk my mum when she's out in the garden, and hiding behind tufts of grass when she looks round... it's currently the only one allowed in their garden as it's the only one that doesn't try to catch the frogs in the pond.

Yeah, long story short. My cat was having siezures like every 5 minutes. bad ones. We took him to the vet to "put him to sleep". He was old, sick and weak. Anyway, the vet said he still hs some time left, so he comes home, and lands up in the dogs side of the house and gets killed. He had never been caught by them or touched in 3 years, i guess it was a fateful day, meant to be.

They can indeed be sensitive to different kinds of sound, without a doubt. Years ago, in the days when I used to play the piano abit (albeit only when I absolutely had to), I recall trying to go through a piece of mine for clarinet and piano (which I have long since discarded, by the way) with a very fine clarinettist and finding, to my chagrin and dismay ( to say noting of that of the clarinettist), that my cat at the time appeared to have no problem with my horrible piano playing but took immense exception to any and every sound made by the clarinettist, as though she (the cat) somehow assumed that his clarinet was some kind of horribly noisy genetically modified cat.

that's a cute story, alistair.  never thought of a cat being threatened by a clarinet.  cats can even be threatened by themselves the first time they see themselves in a mirror.

gilead,  maybe your cat had a death wish and purposely went on the 'dog side of the house.'  the reason i say this is cats do seem to have moods.  probably heard the doctor mumbling and didn't want to find out how long it would take.

i'm very concerned about my cat.  she's got slight alzheimer's now and forgets she just ate.  i feed her at 8 and around 10 she's acting like she forgot she already ate.  so i remind her and put her outside.  but the thing is, when she comes back in and if i'm on the computer - she goes up on the bannister behind the computer (which has a 10-12 ft drop) and acts like it is perfectly ok to 'nest' there.  i get fidgity and tell her to 'come down right now.'  it's like saving someone from suicide attempt every other day.  she usually acquises.  i think she needs a lot of love lately and if she doesn't get it one way she gets it another.

aww. they're very cute.  i like my tortie, too.  she has a lot of colors but darker than yours.  black and a sort of orange hint.  when she had her four kittens - she had two all white ones, one completely orange one, and one that looked just like her - black and orange.

Both of our (my family's) cats come when we call.  One of them knows what 'tuna' is. :D  If you say tuna she gives you this weird look.  She stops EVERYTHING she's doing and bugs you until you give her some.  You can't even spell it!   She knows hows tuna is spelled, too.  We have to call it 'that food'.  ;D :) ;) 8)

I'm pretty sure there isn't a correlation between people with asthma having it worse if they have pet cats and those that don't. I have two asthmatic friends, one with 1 cat, the other with 3.

dirt/dust, grass and pollen is probably a big culprit with kitties.  they go outside - roll over once or twice in the dirt and/or grass - come inside - and leave dust mites etc.  common problem.  much MORE dust with kitties.

but, for us who already have cats - what to do?  you love them.  this is why i keep cleaning up after mine.  sometimes she even tracks mud in the house - but rarely.  what i don't like is always changing bedsheets - because the first place she goes is to the bed to lie down. i try to always have the covers up.

sometimes do you wonder about the air we breathe as sometimes contributing to the ashma problems that people have, too. i mean - if you exercise a lot - you can still get it  because of breathing in bad air at times.  there are air filters you can buy for your home.  when we lived in lancaster (which is REALLY DUSTY - beause it's desert) we bought one when our second daughter was born.  we put it in her room and turned it on at night.  it seemed to clear the air so she could sleep well.  (carbon filter, i think)

I'm seriously considering it being a problem with the air conditioning in my office, especially as it's attached to a big workshop which is very dusty. I never had problems in the past, then this is my third winter in this office and the second I've had breathing problems. Coincidence?... am vaguely wondering if there's an industrial injury-type claim there. Probably won't pursue it even if there is but it's an interesting point.
