Help on Grieg

I will need tips on playing his pieces. I am currently working on his Lyric pieces, Op 12.

I think he's just looking on tips to play Grieg, much like Mozart should be played evenly and with no rubato (or limited) and things like that.

Kevin, see if there's anything written in the book like an introduction to the music. It might offer some useful advice. Myself, I don't know much Grieg to offer advice, hopefully others will.

Grieg is always telling a story, so you should come up with a poetic description of the pieces you play.

You can also get recordings of Grieg playing the piano, well, piano-rolls actualized on a modern piano.  He plays very freely.

Eleanor Ballie did a very good performers guide to Grieg and it works through all his solo pieces in some level of detail and gives very good general style points.  I believe the publisher may be Valhalla??!  If not PM me I have a contact.

I think, it's misleading to postulate a general way of performing the music of a special composer. You have to look at the concrete piece to decide how to play it. Even Griegs "Lyrical" pieces are very, very different, some are really lyrical but others are powerful, energetic, rhythmical. The titles of the pieces give good hints about how the piece should sound like.
