Pianist books
on: February 19, 2004, 08:53:25 PM
Do you know good books about piano-players?
I was interested if somebody knew a book that would offer a short history of great pianists?! I've read a couple that have maybe 5-6 pianists that they talk about, but nothing like an enciclopedia.
My favorite books about pianists are:

Great pianists speak with Adele Marcus
Pianists at play : interviews, master lessons, and technical regimes by Dean Elder.
Great pianists speak for themselves. Volume 2 by Elyse Mach.
Giants of the keyboard. by Chapin, Victor.
Great pianists.  by Schonberg, Harold C.
Masters of the keyboard.  by Brook, Donald.
... and many others that i can't remember the full title.

There's also Speaking of Pianists by Abram Chasins (one of Hoffman's pupils), and Pianists on Piano Playing, which is a collection of interviews from an early magazine, very disappointing, in my opinion. These books, on the whole, do not make you a better player! (Maybe some people say otherwise....)
