 Dear Bombtrack:
Although we can write down several pages about this topic, it's really about one thing: focus. The question is: how to mantain it a peak level?
One hint: if you play always in the same way, in the same piano, in the same time of day...well, that's boring like anything like this. When the muscular work is done, it is time to have fun and play. Literally. Try to surprise yourself: explore the dynamics, the agogics, the speed, the expression, the touch, the color, the sound, the pedalling. In other words, explore everything in the piece, looking as many times as necessary to the score to unravel the text and its meaning.
What I'm talking about is: keep your pieces alive. When someone is reading or studying a work, there are several things to take care off: notes, figures, fingering, technique, etc, etc, etc. When you finish this, nothing remains to get you down. So,
the above is a precious key to interpretation and to fresh playing. Renew your topics and goals, and see what happens.
 Best!

PS: By the way, there is at least one thread dealing with this in the forum. Sorry I don't have the link, but try the search.
