Unfortunately, 10-2, I'm going to have to withdraw from the duel due to an injury to my right arm. I'm forbidden basically all RH work until it's better.

bleh.

I hope you get better soon.

Although i did make fun of your injury in chat room, i hope you realise i was just trying to cheer you up with amputation jokes.

Sorry about that, but this means we must modify our duel, let's pick a LH solo piece ;)

i think everyone should play one of the same pieces as everyone else and then several different ones:

liebestraum
chopin etude
contemporary piece
random choice

(i haven't practiced for two weeks).  ok.  the piano got tuned.

Thanks wolfi. :)

And thanks thal- lol, I know you were trying to cheer me up. You did succeed! I guess you're right about the tennis- although it'll mean the THIRD straight season I've missed (missed fall and winter due to my ankle, argh). So stupid. And yeah I'm cutting down computer quite a bit.

10-2 & pita- lol....

um I think even comme could possibly beat me in a LH only duel. I did think of the Godowsky 10-2 actually, but... GOOD GRACIOUS. :P Not too familiar with LH rep otherwise (I know Scriabin has a prelude and a nocturne...)
[lau] 10:01 pm: like in 10/4 i think those little slurs everywhere are pointless for the music, but I understand if it was for improving technique

sorry to hear about that. you should do godowsky chopin etude on op 10 no 6 LH. its way better than the original chopin etude lol. also the scriabin prelude & nocturne for LH are worth a glance. get well soon!

Maybe. I played this 20 years ago and will again someday. Not sure if now is the right time; you mean to the end of the sonata, right? I think of the fugue as a 4th movement, although they are attached...

I'll be back soon with a definite reply.

nice choice indeed.
I would pick something like....1 round of competition....lets say
Bach - 1 Partita or 3 P/F
Beethoven any of last 5 Sons
Liszt Sonata
Etude. ...whatever you want

If Marik and Bar-Niv agree to take part (hahaha rarely I know you marik you wouldnt lower yourself with him) then it would be awesome

Ah, now I see you got my point ;).

P.S. On a second thought, some serious stuff like complete Beethoven op.101 or Schubert Wanderer, would do it.
Or some Concerto, like Tchaik.1st, or Rach3. 8)

I always thought that every concert pianists should have Liszt sonata in their repertoire, regardless if they play it in concert or not
anyway it is a MUST for every pianists (thats why I put it for the duelz!)
wow do you happen to have your recording of Beethoven op.101 (esp.fugue)?

I do have Liszt Sonata in repertoire--I learned it about 20 years ago, I just never played it in concerts. Maybe another 5-10 years...

And in fact, I think I have somewhere both Wanderer and Op.101 recorded live. I just never bothered to listen to them. IIRC, I forgot something in Fugue or missed a chord or two :-[ and Wanderer was my first experience on stage.

Best, M

people should play what they enjoy and relate to.  but, i suppose for the purpose of true competition - there should be several pieces required.  one that noone has played and has to learn from scratch and one that is known but a free choice.

Well, for upcoming tour in October besides two other programs I need to learn some new pieces.
Need some challenge to start, so any takers on the following:

Prokofiev Sonata no.2 (complete)
Schumann Phantasiestucke op.12 (complete)
Schumann Novelette in D major (possibly)
Rachmaninov, Moments Musical op.16 (excl. #1)
Rachmaninov, Etude Tableaux D Major (op.39)

If not then I will need to challenge myself, I guess :(
