Alright, my video is posted at Google videos:

https://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8821336720048954817

Just a few notes (no pun intended):

- I wasn't sure of the rules that govern a piano duel, so I did not take any liberties in terms of editing the sound or doing several takes. This is take#1 (I sped up a bit near the end...grrr!!!) and no sound editing has been done.
- Sorry for the C quarter-tone flat major
- Sorry for the über bright sound...just had a very competent technician here on Friday...said my piano will take about $4000 worth of work (new hammers, voicing, regulation, tuning) to get it up to a respectable level :(

Anyway...enough of me blabbing...LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

Good job, very lyrical.  :)

See the audition room for my duel with pianogeek_cz in #4.

lol, you're so lucky. I haven't had a break since summer, actually since forever, like last christmas because I practised throughout summer break. After this competition I have my harmony 5 exam next month, no break this christmas either since I have to prep for Kiwanis, ARCT exam and history 5 plus auditions, which all fall between April-June and then will be moving back to singapore.

franz&schubert, are you posting your recordings of the Haydn sonata today?
I don't want to post mine yet if neither of you are going to.

I'm going to have to gracefully (shamefully) bow out, as I've struggled to get the whole thing together in a recordable state (i really did try) and it kept falling apart. Classical sonatas definitely aren't my strong point, there is always something that seems to go horribly wrong. It's still not really in my fingers, but i will keep trying, and let you know if i can get it all together. For good measure, my piano has 2 keys which are now virtually silent, and the webcam I have been recording on isn't working...
Sorry :(

Ti's okay, I'm not exactly satisfied with the state it's in, so a little extra time will come in handy... How's the new flat?

Argh. I am not even remotely able to play this piece at the time, though I am practicing. It would not even be worth to be called "work in progress". So I don't post. I guess this one is not my stuff at the time :P :'(

Does that mean the duel is off, or delayed?

I have a work-almost-done-but-still-needs-progress version done today. If the duel is off, I'm posting to get some criticism. If it's delayed, I'm waiting.

I'm having trouble motivating myself.  Anyone up for the first movement of Beethoven Op. 78 (F-sharp major)?

I've never played this sonata but I would really like to. When were you thinking of posting your recording? I would need a little while to learn the notes and get a decent recording together. Any ideas?

Well, I went ahead and started it since my teacher started pushing me.  I'd like at least 2 more weeks, though 3 would be better.  How about something like March 8ish?  I can be flexible though if you want more or less time.

Anyone want to duel with me on any of the following pieces:

Liebermann                Gargoyles (any or all)
Bach                           P&F in f#-minor, book I
Rachmaninoff              Prelude Op. 32 No. 10

I'm just starting to dig in and could use a little extra motivation.  If necessary, I could send a pdf if u don't have the sheets... let me know   :)

I figured I'd revive this awsome thread it's also a very good encouragement to practice. Anybody up for a prelude and fugue from Bachs Well Tempered Clavier? Just not 2, 21, and 22 from book I and 5 and 7 from book II because I've already played those.

I'll take you up on that one.

You can either choose one and let's do it six weeks from now, or entertain this awesome idea:  Let's do one per week, starting Sunday of the first full week.

Since the one per week concept is a little sudden, I say let's begin with the five you listed.  Pick a new one for week six, then we alternate choosing the next one.

In 48 weeks (plus one) we will do them all.  I will do them in video, no matter what (i.e., no matter how bad).  No editing, but feel free to make more than one take.

one WTC a week seems pretty difficult especially since i have other things to learn. We could do like one per month

Suit yourself.  48 months is 4 years.

Do you want to start with the ones you know or one you don't?  You pick first.
