Ahh, i have made an error here. I am getting my forums mixed up. I thought this thread was about the old sorabji forum started by rygilliam.
You mean "ryguillian". OK. The Telemann reference remains unexplained, but all in good time, one may suppose...
I did not realise that the Sorabji Archive had one of its own.
But presumably you do now.
I must join and perhaps my knowledge of 3 finger bluegrass might come in useful.
"For what", I cannot help but wonder - by which, of course, I mean for what might that knowledge come in useful, rather than for what reason you might like to join that forum...
Sorabji surely must have been aware of the possibilities of the 5 string banjo.
If he did, I'm sure that he neither "fretted" over it, nor hit anyone over the head with it, nor even used it as a culinary mandolin - still less composed fugues for it. For the record, the "grass" in his garden was not "blue", either. I somehow suspect that he'd have put up 2, rather than 3, "fingers" to any banjolier that sought to trespass upon his territory to entertain him; furthermore, the only thought that the instrument may have prompted him to have about the lamp-post at the corner of the street would have been about the likely dog-pee thereupon.
Best,
Alium
