What grade are you?
on: April 08, 2007, 11:11:34 PM
Something funny I thought of to ask all of you, was your grade.

What's your grade (officially, non-officially)?
What's your experience in music?
What instruments do you play?
Do you compose?
What types/genres/styles of music do you like?

I'll answer these questions first, to start.

I don't know in which grade I am, in the place where I'm learning the piano there are no grades, but I'm probably in the first or second. I can play Minuet in G by Bach, at least.  :P
Well, I've always loved music. I started listening to lots of kinds of music, especially Pink Floyd and other rock bands, the classics, developed a good (I think) sense of rythm and musicality, and my parents gave me small keyboards, drums, and a small guitar. All of them I broke into pieces. lol  ;D
I've never played something officially, I'm self-taught. I just started having lessons, and I didn't have one of piano yet. I will have one tomorrow. But I've played guitar for a long time. Chords and stuff. I can entertain myself and others. And now I play the piano, I'm evolving (I think), and I'm aiming at being a good pianist. :)
I've composed a lot of things, but not anything very good. Just some pieces to learn. I think composing is very important to know why you play the piano that way, and why the composers wrote stuff like that. You know...
The styles of music I like are classical, rock, gothic rock, metal, progressive rock, jazz, blues... :)

Bye for now, and please participate!

Kind regards,
       OceanSoul.

What instruments do you play? Clarinet, Piano, Sax I guess(If you can play Clarinet you can play this too)
Do you compose? I took a composition class but not I am not really that good at it at all..
What types/genres/styles of music do you like? Jazzy type stuff, some classical, I like to try learning theme songs(want to learn all the mario/final fantasy, etc. stuff)

What's your grade (officially, non-officially)?
Well.. I'm around 7-9, not really sure since i don't stick with one kind of level. Is "The Tempest' around there?
What's your experience in music?
Hmm, I've taken lessons for a year, and quit lessons and gone solo for about 2 and a half years.
What instruments do you play? frankly, I only play piano :-\  i'm hoping to play violin someday.
Do you compose? not really.... Only if i feel bored of reading.
What types/genres/styles of music do you like? Romance, Classic, NewAge, anything like Chopin's Fantasie where it goes from Fierce, and Fiery to slow and relaxing.

What's your grade (officially, non-officially)?
I have grade 4 officially... but I play at a higher grade than that. I stopped doing grades when I switched teachers 2 years ago to concentrate on my A level exam. (I looked up the 3 pieces I've been playing on the forum, which grades them 6/7/8)

What's your experience in music?
Not vast! I've always played the piano, kind of as a hobby, and I've always adored it- but I've only really put any work into it in the past 2 years.

What instruments do you play?
The piano. :P I used to play the violin, too.

Do you compose?
Only for school work- I hate it!

What types/genres/styles of music do you like?
classical, romantic, rock(all kinds), folk, country, currently listening to Kraftwerk- what genre is that? Quite open minded about music to be honest, but very opinionated at times.

Hello again.

Thank you all for your answers. I think more people should pariticipate.
Have you forgot this thread?

Let's introduce another question:
Why do you like music?

This is a hard one. I'll answer that tomorrow too, now I have to go sleep.
Try to answer it.

Kind regards,

I think it's an escape from the drudgery and dullness of everyday life.  :D

When I put my headphones on and play, I could be anywhere.  ;D

What's your grade (officially, non-officially)?
ARCT

What's your experience in music?
Experience?

What instruments do you play?'
Piano

Do you compose?
I fail in composition class, I got a 60 on an easy exam... Yeah. My teacher says everything I write down doesn't sound right.

What types/genres/styles of music do you like?
Classical only probably.

Why do you like music?
Because everything else seems to annoy me.
That's the price you pay for being moderate in everything.  See, if I were you, my name would be Ilovepie.  But that's just me.

1. I have no idea what grade I'm in really... And I don't really care honestly. I mean, I play things all over the boards.

2 and 3. I've played violin for 12 years. And piano for about a year and a half. Both are great instruments. Contrary to (most pianists) popular belief, piano is NOT superior to all instruments, as much as I love it...

4. I premeired my violin concerto with my orchestra. Now though, I compose much less than I used to, a prélude here and there.

5. CLASSICAL.

6. It's fun!

Well I'm currently going for AMEB 5th grade at the end of the year, it will be my first exam!
I've been playing (with lessons) a month or two under a year, I haven't really performed for anyone yet.
I like to dabble in a little composing however the stuff I come up with is too hard for me to be able to write it down properly (ps I find it hard to write even the simplest things down)
uhhh rock/classical/pop/hip hop/indie/alternative many others
I like music because it is the language of the soul! ;D

Hi there. :)
Thank you for participating.
I just came back from a rehearsal of 2 hours, in which I participated 10 minutes. :s
Why did I stay? Because I love music.
Why do I love music?  ;D
I think music can be perfect, and the world itself isn't. I want to reach perfection, I want to leave this physical world. I think music is very spiritual, and it reflects our inner self, our mind, our soul, our rythm. As you probably read of my answers in the first place, I'm not very advanced musically, but the fact that I love it means a lot. I hide in music, I express through it. We have a very oppressive world, and we seek evasion. Through music.

Kind regards,
     OceanSoul.

What's your grade (officially, non-officially)?
I'm not in a standard grade system right now. I passed Level 8 or 9 auditions...whichever the last level was, I don't remember the number.

What's your experience in music?
10 years at piano now. (Oh wow, it's been awhile...)
I switched teachers for a year in between due to moving issues, then switched back.
I studied flute for a year, and I still remember how to "play" it, but of course not well.
I'm also trying to study the guitar independently, though I don't have much time.
I play in a couple of competitions, but nothing too serious, since I play piano mostly for my own enjoyment.

What instruments do you play?
Only piano, officially.

Do you compose?
I've started to recently, but I don't have anything final yet, only a collection of ideas.

What types/genres/styles of music do you like?
For piano/classical: Romantic, Impressionistic, Contemporary.
I'm only just starting to appreciate Baroque and Classical.
I also listen to some New Age music.
And, yes, I listen to pop and rock...but mostly not in English.

Why do you like music?
That's a very deep question...I guess I don't know why, but to me, it doesn't matter WHY I like it...I just like it, and that's enough for me to keep playing. =)
