What do you think about Imus being fired?

Comedians say far worse. Both black and white about the opposite race and all ethinic groups.

It's a little scary how fiercely Imus is being attacked - and peculiar that black rappers' lyrics (which are far more degrading to black women) don’t even get a slap on the wrist by these same attackers. I do believe this is a case of racism by the attackers.

It annoys me that he can be offensive to many people for years without a problem but as soon as the self appointed emperors of the African-American community (Al Sharpton & Jesse Jackson) see an opportunity for personal publicity they come out demanding Imus be crucified. As soon as the camera is turned off they probably have their hands out looking for donations to their "causes".
It seems like our free speech is gradually being wittled away by political correctness and hyper sensitivity to everything.

Yeah, Sharpton & Jackson are hypocrites. I’m tired of hearing their bigoted nonsense. ::)

While Imus' words were certainly offensive, what made them particularly "racist"?

Probably because it was directed at an all- black basketball team. And also the “nappy-headed” part referring to those small tight curls many black females use. And of course the word “Ho” which originated from the black rappers.

Al & Jesse; would you like a little cheese with your whine?  Now I'll be labeled a racist. ::)

Naps are kinky hair. Anyone with kinky hair can be considered nappy-headed, white or black. What's interesting is that of the same camps asked what should be done with Imus, the same faction that was cheering when OJ was found not guilty all say "Hang Imus", and the same faction that was hanging their collective heads in disbelief with the Goldman's when the verdict was read, say "Forgive Imus". It's been like that throughout history, and as long as there are at least two people on the planet that are different, it always will.

Give me a break. The only reason CBS fired Imus was for fear of losing those big sponsor bucks. Those guys would sell out their own mother for a few bucks.

It keeps getting better (I mean worse). Our local radio DJ/host of 17 years was fired for repeating that famous phrase "nappy-headed hos" yesterday. Actually he had a contest where people could call in and say they were a "nappy-headed ho". I guess we can start throwing "freedom of Speech" in the shiter. It's certainly a crazy World today.

Can I say "shiter" here? ;D

It seems Michael Richards remark was much worse. BTW, how did it end?

Is the network going to edit out all of the racial humor from the Chapelle show? If they get rid of all the skits like "The N*****s", "White folks are scary", the blind, black KKK leader, etc., etc., they'll only have commercials left.

I don't know Virtuo, but the commercials are getting better all the time. So many of the commercials depict stupid people though. Maybe the stupid people will rise up next and demand more sensitivity towards stupidity.

It's so funny to see how the US deals with racism and free speech.

It is rather humorous at times. I bet Imus isn't laughing though.
