Which Beethoven Sonata should I learn?
on: July 27, 2007, 05:39:39 PM
Hey guys--
I should probably be figuring this out on my own, but I figured everyone likes to talk about their favorite pieces, and I like listening to them. Plus, it's summer, and I'm bored
Anyway... I don't have a teacher at the moment thought I'm planning on getting one when school starts, but I've played for a while... I'd call myself a grade six-ish player... I'm currently polishing up Chopin's Nocturne No. 20 (posth.) and messing around with his Op 55 No 1 in F minor (even though that one's pretty far over my head for now). So... my dilemma is, I have a bunch of Beethoven lying around and I want to work on some of it, but I want to play something that's not too hard and also something that's worth playing. I have Alfred's Vol 1 which includes Op 2 Nos. 1,2,3; Op 7; Op 10 Nos 1,2,3; and Op 13. A few months ago I learned the first movement of Op 10 No 1 and messed around with the second movement of Op 10 No 3 (also over my head, but so pretty!).
Soo--suggestions?

I'm not sure which grade it falls under, but I enjoyed playing Beethoven's Sonata op49 no2.
It's simple, but light-hearted and fun, especially the second movement...you can really have fun with expression there.

I agree No 49 No 1 or 2 is the best place to start.
