My current baby is a 2007 Subaru Impreza - Special Edition. Don't have a pic right now but I will add one in the near future. You a car guy/gal? Truck? Or possibly a big POS suv? Post those pics mang. Let's see those whips.

Edit: I'll post mine when I take a pic of it (have to get a car wash first... and it's monsoon season so that may be awhile before a car wash becomes practical). Plus my digital camera is busted, so I have to replace that first...  :-\

I have a 1982 piece of sh*t Volvo SL240 manual that seems to make new noises every time i drive it, not to mention having a vicious leak in the radiator.  Oh, and no AC.  Oh, and just in case anyone forgot I'm in Alabama, and the heat index today was 117.  Oh yeah, broken fuel gauge, non-existent parking brake, and busted steering column, so my highbeams don't turn off- just had to adjust them to point lower (actually got a ticket for having my brights on!  $133.00, what bull)

I also have a ridiculously badass 1989 (right before Ford bought them out) Saab 900SE Manual turbo with the rev cap removed and some other modifications like exhaust, intake and a cooling system to compensate for that.  It gets about 35mpgh, and could top out at about 145mph with the rev cap on.  Have no idea how fast it can go now.  Probably somewhere around 170, but I'm not all that interesting in finding out to be honest ^^;  Just recently got it back from my friend who's a mechanic, where it's been for like four months getting a lot of interior (GPS, cracked dash fixed, CD player, new seats) and a bit of engine work (gear box and aforementioned stuff) done.  OMG I HAVE AC AGAIN!  yesssssssss

Lovely old S4S that i pick up next Wednesday.

Can't see much out the back, can't actually see much out the front. Difficult to turn the steering wheel, even more difficult to push the clutch and almost impossilbe to change gear.

Expensive to maintain, even more expensive to insure and drinks more petrol than i do beer.

Driving position is horrible, small luggage space, handbrake is on the wrong side and impossible to drive around town.

I tend to change cars a lot due to boredom. Miss me old Nissan 200X, do not miss the Nissan Skyline and glad i opted out of a 4 way ownership of a Countach.

Almost bought a TVR Cebera, but it gave me a headache after 2 miles.

1993 Skoda Favorit. Bought just over 2 years ago for low hundreds of pounds, low mileage, utterly reliable, enormous fun. OK, so I rebuilt and slightly upgraded the suspension when I got it, and put uprated treads on the front, but otherwise it's standard. Goes round corners like a bat out of hell, though of course the top cruising speed on the motorway is only about 80mph, maybe 85 for overtaking, but my real favourite feature about cars like that is that they're completely invisible to the cops.

And by the way there is no way a Saab 900 Turbo is going at 170mph no matter how high you think it will rev. 150 would be pushing it, on a test track with all the time in the world to get there.

It's an SE, not just a turbo.  And like I said, I don't know what the top speed would be atm.  But it could get around 140/145 on the interstate before (I know, I've done it)  Even the new ones with crappy American engines get over 140mph ::)

According to the apparently omnisicent Pianistimo, I have a "blue sports car" of as yet indeterminate identity; the reason why I cannot post pictures of it here is not so much because I do not have the means to scan and upload such pictures but the rather more prosaic one that I do not happen to possess such a car outside the - er - somewhat unusual imagination of Pianistimo...

Hmm... what sort of car would alistair drive?

Surely a sedan.  Doubt it would be black or red.  I'm thinking blue, green, white or silver.  For some reason I'm picturing white though.  Maybe an Audi?

Why so? Just because they were once popular (and by "once" I mean during the 18th century rather than last week) in the City of Bath where I reside does not make that at all likely (and I don't in any case know who would manufacture such things nowadays, still less whether you could get a current 4Χ4 model with airbag, aircon, satnav etc. as standard).

btw, i drive a 2003 honda odessey.  plenty of room for three kids (one of which is almost 6 foot tall - so it's a good thing it has headroom and the seat is adustable for driving. i like it excepting when parts have to be replaced.

we paid over $700.+ to get the timing belt and something else replaced.  (a couple of other belts).  though we saved about $150. dollars because we got the extended warranty (which covers certain other parts - ie water pump).  i highly recommend getting the extended warranty because of the cost of replacing parts.

so far, it has been a very good driving vehicle.  it drives like a car though harder to park.  and, you have to watch out backing up.  don't want to run over pets or babies.

yes!  thank you for coming, pianowolfi.  you were fun to hang out with.  i hope you are not too exhausted from all your cycling.  you seem to have endless energy.

i used the seatbelts for the back seats to secure the bicycles around their seats and it works pretty well.  just lower the back seat and voila.  bicycle space.  btw, the seatbelts in the back are attached at the sides of the van and not the seats (for the two side people) - so they can still be used when the seat is down around the bicycles).

it gets pretty good gas mileage, too.  overall - i like hondas.

These are pictures I took for insurance purposes of my old car.  It was a 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse 5-speed coupe...  I bought the car used in 2003 and 2 months after I bought it, I hit a male deer on the freeway at 11:30PM while I was going 70+ miles an hour.  The deer was running and I didn't see it until it was too late!  The deer crumpled the hood and was flung over the roof of the car.  I wasn't injured but the car would not drive after that and I had to tow it.  :'(

In a PM, actually (although when referring to this here I'd forgotten that this had been the source of your idea)...

hmm.  here, let me pick a car for you.  this has alistair written all over it (and it will compete easily with thalbergmad's new car):

No need to apologise; I did know that, actually and I was only joking, given the famous use of sedan chairs in the 18th century in the city where I live...

What fuel does it run on? Standard gasoline? Electricity? Hydrogen? A wing and a prayer? (if the last of these, pianistimo might at least be able to figure out how it can be driven, even if no one else here can).

Is its transmission automatic or manual? Does it have aircon as an optional extra? What's its top speed and acceleration statistics? Do the authorities really accept it as roadworthy and safe? (it rather looks to me abit like a fire risk waiting to be taken).

Were you to trade it in for one of those Maseratis that pianistimo mentioned above, how much extra do you think you might have to pay?

Now here's a thing. On the site that you mention, Maserati say of their Quattroporte that it
"continues to express the emotion and excitement of a real Granturismo".
I can now tell you, Susan dear, that I do not possess of of these cars and, if I did, I'd be rather worried about the problems associated with owning and using a car that's capable of emotional expression; wouldn't you?

Indeed - and nice pieces of engineering those ones are, too. I just can't quite get accustomed to the notion that they are as capable of emotion as they are of velocity. I suppose that this means that you are now sufficiently disappointed that you won't be ordering me one of either. Ah, well; I'd never have gotten to PA in one anyway...

you're just jealous because we went on a bike ride together.  pianowolfi has a lot of energy - i'll tell you that.  but, there was no hanky-panky if that's what you are meaning.  we went to the 'king tut' exhibit, too - but not before pianowolfi insisted on climbing this rock formation outside in the parking lot.   then, inside -i tried to keep up in the exhibit.  he must be a speed reader or something.

Do you really, REALLY care? And might it make any difference to the extent to which you care were Susan finally to post some properly visible pictures of herself (other than while being kissed by pianowolfi, her presumably long-suffering husband, God or anyone else)?

And what's all this got to do with cars, anyway?...

And what's all this got to do with cars, anyway?...

1. No

2. They went for a ride together in one.

1. No
Then why mention it?

2. They went for a ride together in one.
Your likely take on this (if any) presumably depends to some extent in the present context on your specific defintion of "ride", methinks...

Depends what you mean by "wee"...

Anyway, do remember that he is not "thalberg" but "thalbergmad" - a quite different character altogether.

With a view to making Susan "a wee bit jealous" or for any other reasons? (and, if the latter, please state and elaborate upon said reasons)...
