Oh, please.  Wait until you have to get a real, self-sustaining career.

You have no idea what misery awaits you in this world.

So, shut up about school.  Gawd.

cmg, did you not complain about school.. and if you didn't, that is sick, and it's rare...and society is always right.

6 hours and 40 minutes until i hear the bell and go class to class hearing the same first day of school speech.

Yes, we all complained about school.  Personally, I never listened when I was your age.  You will not likely listen to me either, but I'm going to say it anyway--relax and enjoy every day you have before you enter the work force, and be happy and grateful.

That said, lau, your complaint is legitimate--because while school is better than work, summer is better than school.  So giving up summer is indeed something to complain about.

How short is our time without some kind of effort...we have until we are five when we go off to elementary, and then to high school, university and work, with the workload getting ever heavier until we're sixty or so. Why must we work so much? (Rhetorical...)

I feel all depressed now   :'(

School is not "better" than work. Unless you have a POS job. Work fricken owns mang. Constant improvement of yourself while making an increasing amount of $$$ all the while. I'm not saying school isn't necessary, because it is, but work is infinitely more rewarding. I would never want to go back to school, and I sure as hell am glad that I'll never have to. Just like I wouldn't want to go back to being a kid. Fun? Yes... about as fun as ignorance gets. Self improvement and realization of self > ignorance and no responsibility x 100.

i can comprehend a bit better what you are saying - as i happened to walk into a middle school (i know you're in high school) - and the noise level about killed me.  all the kids talking at the same time in the hallway.  my son wears headphones to and from (but i hope not IN class).  he seems to tune things out when he wants easily enough.  not sure that's good advice.

college is different.  less crowded spaces.  more tuition cost.  prettier girls.  less time.  i don't know - it always evens out.  you either have time and nobody loves you.  or somebody is crazy about you and you don't have time.  then, as mentioned above - you have to work and make money.  pay for gas.  as i see it - just give up and enjoy life. catch a boat to jamaica.  go fishing.  (*although we're starting into hurricane season).

seriously - i think you have to do with school as you do with piano.  study hard.  then, play a sport or something that gets your mind off of the heat (and adjusts you to it!)  we used to live in the desert.  if i stayed inside airconditioning all the time - i couldn't take the heat.  so, i started going cycing almost at noon.  *yes.  that was stupid.  but, it did acclimate me to the weather.  i was usually pretty tired the rest of the day - but i didn't seem to feel the heat as much.  getting in ahot oven car was ok after that.  you just breathe in carefully.

ps  if you take note of the exact temperature of the classroom  - you could then write a scathing letter to the editorial section of your local newspaper?!  then, something might get done when parents read about it.  mention the several girls that have sufferred heat stroke inside the classroom.

Greetings

Yes but how can you expect to find a decent job without qualifications, which school most steadily offers? I am mostly referring to common-place jobs that do require a high-school diploma and college diploma. If you are stuck with a boring job I don't think you are going to develop at all. Quite the opposite really. I personally love school in the sense that it provides at least some knowledge and does stimulate one in at least a minimal way. However if I was to criticize schools I would begin by claiming that the rate at which they teach material is so slow it would make retards wish for faster classes. To compare, all students have to take a "government" class in order to graduate. Before that, I studied to subject according to the text-book and guess what, in two weeks I retained more information than an entire YEAR of school based study. Why? Because due to the size of classrooms and the prevalence of idiotic kids in them, teachers have to inculcate the same information many times, backed by stupid class projects about which I have no doubt that they are designed to fill in the time, much like the many idiotics television shows that fill in the good ones just so that the idiotic crowds contributes to the business.

I am sorry if I sidetracked for a while. In any case, despite being very inefficient and almost vulgar to the intellect, school does provide opportunity for further education and does overall contribute to job success later on.

Quote. "I'm not saying school isn't necessary, because it is". I never criticized schools, and I actually would not be where I am today without my college education. So your little post on school doesn't do a thing for me, because my point was not opposite of yours. I was simply saying that I sure as hell am glad I'm no longer in school, and I definitely would not rather be in school than working... and if you have a good, non-POS job (which you may or may not have received from going to school), it is infinitely more rewarding than school. How about you READ a little, eh? So you don't make yourself look stupid? *wink* *wink*  ;) More school maybe? ;) *wink* Tidy up that brain a little? *wink* ;) *wink* k? *wink* *wink* ;)

Maul, let me form a perfectly reasonable conclusion based on the evidence that you seem to provide on this forum, and in respect to your supposed notions about myself and the the extent of my knowledge about the issue hereing.

I do not disagree with you that having an interesting job is better than going to school. I myself also share that opinion, given what I wrote above. I don't exactly know why you think that my knowledge about the matter is faulty.

Maul, I have yet to see a decent, non-dibilitating post from you. Until you learn how to show me and others respect, I will not consider your opinions as serious.

Ahhhhh, hypocrisy. Joyous, and yet so fluffy. Like a big giant ball of ungulating ions, floating so peacefully amidst the jagged edge of reality. So easy to inhale, yet so hard to exhale without the vortex of noxious gas swirling, whipping, and piercing every minuscule of soft flesh with the rusted blades of cyanide spinning quickly through the aisle. But, like many things, it can be avoided. In time.

I used to like the walk to and from school more than sitting still in various chairs for hours.  It was a good 10 block walk, with a canopy of trees.  Sometimes it would snow and the whole thing looked like glass.  I'd nod to the janitor of an elementary school, say hi to the fogies, watch a girl lose her shoe in a bunch of slushy snow, then sit bored until 3PM.

Be careful what you wish for Lau, some people get carried away with the AC.  Before summer was always the coldest time of year because teachers would blast the AC all day.  Somehow I was always stuck under the vent, shivering in my jacket. People should have to pass a test of some sort before getting AC >:(

Then work, for a while I thought I should be doing anything else than my job.  Then I got good at what I do, took pride in it and started to actually like it.  Started making more money and am pretty much in charge.  Work ain't so bad.

Sure beats my last class. Business. I sit through the teacher talking the whole time, and then the computer takes too long to log in, so we end up not getting to use the computers, as she took up all our time talking!  ::)

Does anyone else attending high school find that all the cliques are athletic? Having just gone to a new one, it seems as though no one is academic, and if they are they are ubergeeks. Even my "advanced" music class has yet to play a single note in tune with each other. I have already surpassed most of the class in orchestral instrument skill, having only started two weeks ago. A sad thought that  :'(

Perhaps this more or less doesn't apply to all particular high schools, I can however attest to some of your claims. In my case I wouldn't particularly call the bulk of the students as athletic, despite of course the much larger percentage of students participating in sports rather than other "intellectual" activities, I sure as well wouldn't say that a majority of students are endorsed in those "intellectual" activities, saying nothing of the lack of "supergeeks." I know what you mean with the music classes. The choir in which I did sing in when I was in high school at that time did have a tad trouble staying in tune, but I think that that is due to a lack of interest from many students rather than a lack of ability.

On a sidenote, I think that school curriculum has faults within it that could contribute to a lack of school performance. I think I already mentioned this, but all high school students had to take a mandatory class that deals with government and business. Of course it is a year long program that each student has to take. I picked up the text book, and in two weeks I learned more about it than the year long school class tried to teach us. Why? Because school spends so much time on useless activities such as projects, group presentations, et al, that are just very time consuming. The entire point of the school is to not necessarily give knowledge, for which the majority of the public has no appreciation anyway, but to rather pave a road for further education, and the process is outlined by the concepts of "grades."

This is my 2,746 day out of school.

I counted 1,700,354 European/Asian tourists in Times Square (seeing trashy Disney musicals they can't find in London, Paris, Berlin or Hong Kong) and 974,098 on Bleecker Street alone (my neighborhood) fighting to get inside the Marc Jacobs boutique just around the corner.  Before that, they were getting violent over their place in line at the Magnolia Bakery where they wanted to buy an authentic American cupcake that they saw on the HBO series "Sex in the City."

The Magnolia Bakery is the ONLY cupcake bakery in NYC that employs a bouncer to control crowds.  (Verifiable fact!)  It's not because the baked goods are THAT good.  It's because the show was featured on an American TV series.  Wow!

So I got back from the 2,747th day out of school.  My neighborhood is a mecca for rich, foreign tourists, so on the way home I made it a point to count how many people were speaking in a language other than English:  674,975 to be exact.  All were very well dressed and carrying shopping bags that said "Ralph Lauren," "Chanel," "Coach," etc.

One person was carrying bags from "Condomania" and "The Pleasure Chest."

Some people have all the fun.

Tomorrow, I am going to count how many people are simultaneously using cellphones while they smoke, drink coffee, and walk their dogs.

Any one want to guess how many there will be?  Winner gets a study date with "lau."

So, I just got back from my 2,748th day out of school.

As promised, I counted all the people in my neighborhood who were simultaneously walking dogs, smoking, drinking coffee and talking on cellphones.  It came to 2,343 and 1/2.  The half count is for a lady riding (not walking) on one those electrified, self-propelled scooters.

She was topless, too.  That counts for something, I think.

A segway?  One day I hope to have a fleet of those!

There may be some perks to your area, was the wind chilly that day?

I didn't mention that yesterday I got back from the 15th day of school. I knew that I didn't mention it but I just was too lazy to do anything about it.
