It brings to mind those occasional room layouts you see in home and garden magazines where, because the copy editor wanted the picture to balance on the page, puts it in reverse which has the effect of displaying the grand piano with the harp on the left...or...maybe it's just one of those left-hand pianos...I'll have to check to see of the homes featured are in Australia ::)

I almost want to get myself one and play it just for fun and to hopelessly confuse myself. :)

It is in the same category as the piano with the colours on the black and white keys reversed. But more confusing.

that may be, but it's true that such pianos have been made.

Edit: There's nothing crazy about them btw. It's the left handed eqivalent of the usual piano.

This humorous post made me wonder (I'm right handed) if left-handed pianists feel that the standard piano configuration is somehow a disadvantage, as the left hand, which for them has the best coordination and dexterity, is consigned to the subservient bass, which for the most part does accompaniment, while they have to work harder with what to them probably seems like an awkward right hand to project the more interesting melodic lines of a piece?  Just wondering.  I never thought of it before.  I've played pieces featuring the LH such as Chopin's Revolutionary Etude, with no particular trouble.  Perhaps it just comes naturally then with practice and playing?
Interpreting music means exploring the promise of the potential of possibilities.

It's also interesting to me that works written for the left-hand alone or that feature left-hand segments (Moskowski Etude #13 comes to mind) seem to of necessity rely on the thumb and second finger in an attempt to mimic a right-hand melodic line--fingers that are ill-suited for a connected, legato phrase. It would make more sense to compose left-hand works that would rely more on the crab-like ability of fingers 3,4,5 with the thumb affording a form of accompaniment--a sort of upside down or mirror of what we associate with right-hand phrasing--admittedly odd but more ergonomic.

If I ever had the misfortune to damage my right hand, maybe I would go for a left handed piano (if one existed) in order to keep playing without having to go for the left handed only repertoire.

incredible... i am totally shocked, as a southern, to read that because all my life was wasted hearing the vibrations in the wrong way...my ears, my brain...all twisted...my digital piano with its non-existant strings...all vibrating badly...
i think it's my last post up here...i must quit now...i'd rather do another thing of my life...
