short virtuosic romantic pieces
on: January 29, 2008, 06:00:53 PM
Hi, I need a romantic piece for a recital. It has to be intensive, but not more than 4 pages, so I could learn it by memory among the other pieces I am playing.

Any ideas? :D

Witches Dance op 17 by Mac Dowell. It very fast, romantic, intense and a little bit scary.

Scriabin.  Lots of stuff - check some etudes and preludes.

Chopin prelude #16?

Brahms Op. 116 - there are some in there

Medtner Op 8 No 2 - might be a bit long though

Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

Guys, thank you so much for replying! Let me be more specific.

I am looking for a romantic "mains traem" composer. Like Chopin,Brahms,Mendelsohn,Shuman...

The Piece should be virtuosic, but not an etude.

Thanks again. :-*

i´d go for chopin´s prelude 24 without thinking twice: intensive, four pages (in my edition), mainstream, virtuosic, not an etude...  ;)

 best!

Brahms Rhapsody, Op. 79, No.2, Ballade, Op. 118, No.3 or one of the Hungarian Dances.

The Brahms Op.118 No.2 Intermezzo is VERY romantic....it is four pages...but it is not so virtuosic. However there are parts in there require much more feeling and expressiveness rather than 'technical' difficultyness. It is about AMusA level in Australia (above Gr.8 ).

Well well,

My teacher had a different idea: "Spinnrlied" Opus 67 from songs without words by Mendelsohn. It's five pages and I hope I'll manage.

I'm playing also a P & F from the wtc in Dm from the second book, by Bach.
Haydn's sonate no. 20 in cm, and three preludes by Gershwin.

This programme is for an audition for the acadmy next year.

Good bye and Thank you again! :)

i second chopins prelude 24, or his nocturne in F minor op.55 no.1

i also like brahms rhapsody in g minor, but it is 8 pages!!!!!

Learning:

Chopin Polonaise Op. 53
Brahms Op. 79 No. 2

I would suggest some of Chopin's preludes. Maybe nr. 16.
Or what about Korsakoff's "Flight of The Bumble Bee? People always love it ;) it's not by the romantic era, but it's not far away from it.
Schubert's Impromptu in E-flat are a few more than 4 pages, but the last pages is for the most repetition of the first pages.

Perhaps the first Liszt Transendental etude, or the Prelude from Ravel's 'Le Tombeau de Couperin?

Chopin 24-16.
