Anyone else getting more spam lately?
on: April 07, 2008, 03:30:16 AM
I can work at home and make big money!

And meet singles in my area!

Oh boy.  ::)

Someone must have sold my email.  I just noticed I'm getting like four or five of these emails, the same email, everyday.  So I'm getting tired of scooping these things out of my email box.  My mouse finger is getting fatigued from all this extra work.

Actually, it's just annoying.  I see a new email and get my hopes up an ounce and then get disappointed that's just spam, and then annoyed that I actually have to do some work to delete it.  Enough to consider requesting that they stop sending them, but that will only validate my email address and cause even more spam...  Damn you spam bastards!  (Bob shakes fist in air).

Anyone else getting more spam lately?  (Says Bob as he roasts luscious spam on a fiery pit.  MMmmmm..... Smell dat roasted spam!)   :P

For the spammers and crawlers out there, here's my personal email.  Please take my name off your list.  Please.  (Bob "accidentally" forgets that part.)  I'd like to send them a friendly reply if I could....  Grr...

I use the mail program "IncrediMail" which allows you to send spam back with a faked message "Mail delivery failed, this e-mail-address doesn't exist" I hope I can reduce the amount of spam like this with the time. I've heard this helps.

I get far too much of it and it is indeed irritating; the problem, however, is that one can never be entirely certain that the contents of one's spam folder are exclusively spam and, for me, at least, the most irritating aspect of this is that one has to check the contents of the spam folder before emptying it just in case a non-spam message has also found its way there.

I don't really get any spam at all, except for friends signing up to sites like myspace and Ilike, and inviting me to join them.

gmail is generally very good with its spam blocking, although a few have managed to creep through the filter lately.

I'm up to about 100 - 200 a day.  I'm a freelance translator and have to respond to work queries within the hour or risk losing one.  Some of the job offers land in the spam bunch.  Meanwhile an elderly relative has a server that identifies me as spam.   :D  I had to set up a hotmail account since e-mails from me could no longer go through and the tech support at her end said they could not do anything.    As soon as you send a sound clip, you are "spam".  So I also had to set up box.net to host sound clips because she likes to hear my playing and her service provider is not allowing her to.   :(

If you suddenly got alot more spam, its likely because you put your email adres on some site. Some companies use programs to send mail to any word wich contains something with @...com or /net whatever.

Hehe, my son has programmed his e-mail address put on his site as coming out backward if copied and pasted by a robot (or anyone else).  You can put the words "nospam" or other nonsense into your address so that real people will know enough to take it out but automatic systems can't handle it.

Nonetheless I've had a definite increase in garbage coming in.  My e-mail is listed in my professional organization's site, and with the "nospam" inserts in my profile on a professional discussion forum.  I can't leave either of these out because I get clients through them.

Are bots sophsiticated enough to filter out and replace the "nospam" and similar?

Someone must have given my email out.  It's just a sudden increase.  Lots of doublings basically.

I noticed some of them were just variations on email names similar to what I've got.  Maybe mine didn't bounce back so they started sending more to that address.

Pianowofi, is that a free online program, or an email program like Outlook?  It might work if I could send them back and have them appear to have bounced back because the address doesn't exist.

It's an email program like outlook, you can download the free version here (For me this is enough, the full version is not very expensive though)

How much did you get for it?

Actually, that would be interesting to know.  How much is my email worth to a spammer, monetarily?

I finally got the spam from the famous "bishop" today.  He is coming to "Canada" and wants to pay me to interpret for his wife and daughter during their shopping trips since they don't speak English.  What happens is this "bishop" sends a cheque for a few thousand dollars and "accidentally" sends too much.  Then he asks you to return the difference.  He cashes your cheque for $3000 while his original cheque bounces, and he has made a few thousand bucks from the deal.

The music version is that the "bishop" has five daughters who all want to take intensive piano lessons on a daily basis for the next three weeks.  He prepays by cheque, makes a mistake, asks you to return the difference ... same deal.  He has been known to forget his daughters' names and gender.  Sometimes he's the president of a country.

These scams are soooooo ridiculous that it is amazing that anyone makes money this way at all!  But, it is terribly annoying to have all this junk coming in.

I find it quite offensive a lot of the stuff - that's what gets to me the most.  I should have the right to choose if I want to be exposed to R rated material.  These people take that right away.  What worries me is that our kids are being exposed to this sort of thing, too, if they have their own email account.  It seems there is no way to protect ones' self.  You'd think a paid account would give you privacy - but i get the worst of all in through my Bigpond (private) account.

I downloaded Incredimail, but I haven't managed to get ti to work :-(  Sounds like a good option if I can, though.

I get about 3 a day from the name "Rewards4Shoppers", but all from different email addresses.  Get maybe 2 or 3 a week along the lines of, and I quote, "dont be afraid to tell me the naughty" or "gain 3+ i nches to make her squeel"

Edit:  lol this is the quote I got when I clicked unsubscribe from Rewards4Shoppers:

Please allow 5-7 business days for your
e-mail address to be completely removed
from the system.

We maintain a ZERO SPAM POLICY.

Quote
Good Day,
Before anything i  want to ask if you can be trusted? I am Dr. Tim
Smith a personal account adviser/officer to a great late industrialist who
has an account in one of the top banks here in Ghana,It has been seven
years now since he died in the year 2000 without a written or an oral
will to the best of my knowledge from information I gathered via his
attorney here in Ghana and since then nobody has operated on his account
again hence the money is floating and if I do not remit this money out
urgently it will be forfeited for nothing since the bank has been sold
on Monday, 19 September 2006 to another bank and the management of the
bank are now ready to release the fund to any foreigner who has the
 correct information of the account.

The owner of this account is a foreigner and no other person knows
about this account or anything concerning it, the account has no other
beneficiary. My investigation through the National immigration department
proved to me as well that he was single as at the point of his entry
 into Ghana.

The correct sum involved is tweenty six Million United States
 Dollars(US$26,000,000.00).

Your assistance is basically required to fit you in as the Next of Kin
to the deceased, which will facilitate the transfer of the aforesaid
sums into your designated bank account as your inheritance.I have
primarily contacted you for the above stated purpose because a local person
here in Ghana can not apply for the claims as the Next of Kin to a
foreigner, hence the necessity for a foreign partner.

Furthermore, your assistance as a foreigner is necessary because the
management of the bank will welcome any foreigner who has the correct
information to this account which I will give you immediately, if you are
interested to do this business with me.

You shall read more news about the plane  crash  of late Mr Morris
 Thompson by visiting this sites:

<https://archives.cnn.com/2000/US/02/01/alaska.airlines.list/>
What is required from you to enable the Attorney here process the
necessary Documents that will back up the claims as the Legitimate next of
kin to the deceased, which will mandate the Bank to tranfer the funds
 into your account are:

*-A scanned Copy of your International Passport or Drivers
License sent by email attachment.
*-Your Tel/Fax numbers(To facilitate communication)
*-Your Nominated Bank account information(An empty account is
 suitable).
*-Your contact address and occupation.

With this informations, it will enable the attorney procure a power of
attorney document in your name from the high court. So that you can
have all legal right to contact the bank directly regarding the transfer
 of the fund to you.

For your information, the sum of 30% will be for you, while 70% will be
for me after the transfer has been made.

I hope to use my own share of the fund for investment opportunities  in
your country after the deal is successfully completed. Then i will come
 over.

Finally, i will be looking forward to read from you soon , so that all
neccessary arrangement can be made on time.

Best wishes.

Dr.Tim Smith.

Yeah, I too have been getting lots of spam. Maybe all the spammers just got bored and decided to go on a rampage or something. Who knows.

Get maybe 2 or 3 a week along the lines of, and I quote, "gain 3+ i nches to make her squeel"

You could use it, I've heard. Why didn't you take the offer?
