OH YEAH, BABBEEEEEEEEEEEY ( :P).

I like chess alright *she says calmly and coolly*

Actually, once upon a time, in a land far away, at a time when things were much quieter and much simpler, I (the fair maiden) was on a chess team ... mwuah ha ha haaa ... I mean, hee hee.  I didn't really know what I was doing though, and I suspected that people were just letting me win because I am pretty ...  ;D

If you pick "Yes", that means that you also know how to read chess notation.

Thanks!

But by so saying are you seeking to imply that the two may be inherently incompatible or merely accepting that they are different?

Actually, once upon a time, in a land far away,
May I ask which land that was?...

at a time when things were much quieter and much simpler,
...or indeed when that was?...

I (the fair maiden)
...a harmless white dove, indeed (by your own admission elsewhere on this forum)...

was on a chess team ... mwuah ha ha haaa ... I mean, hee hee.  I didn't really know what I was doing though, and I suspected that people were just letting me win because I am pretty ...  ;D
Well, I suppose that even that might arguably have been thought preferable to being taken diagonally by a bishop...

'Tis a great game, for all that...

Best,

Alistair

Thank you; then I will ask those questions....

A form of "chess notation" I presume?
In the foreword to my Étude en forme de Chopin, written for Marc-André Hamelin, I wrote as follows:

In May 1992, unbeknown to the composer of this work at the time, the brilliantly gifted Canadian composer and pianist Marc-André Hamelin wrote an Étude for piano combining these three Chopin Études.  Entitled TRIPLE ÉTUDE (AFTER CHOPIN) it is dedicated "To anyone who has ever wondered what Godowsky’s own transcription would have looked like".

In a later letter (enclosing TRIPLE ÉTUDE) to the composer of this work, Hamelin, referring (though not specifically by name) to LES TROIS CHOPINS, wrote "I would have been extremely interested in seeing yours, but I guess it was not to be".

Guesswork can involve dangerous risks.  The fact that TRIPLE ÉTUDE provided the composer with what may be seen as the unnecessary incentive to reconstruct LES TROIS CHOPINS perhaps proves this.

If guesswork can indeed involve such risks, some might presume that presumption may do likewise, though discretion prevents me from expressing an opinion one way or the other in this particular instance...(!)...

Yeah chess was like the piano for me before. Our chess board was "borrowed" by my sister's college but in fact gave it away. And the other chessboard of mine is lacking a piece. Who wants to play online chess?

Yes.  When I was a kid my Dad and I played for a time, and I really enjoyed it.  I haven't really played since then, though.  But I think I will get back to it someday.

I used to like chess but nowadays I don't really like it since it's so trivial that computers can beat everyone in it. Chess strategy is also really shallow compared to strategy in some other games.

When I started playing Go ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Go_(board_game) ) It didn't take me too long to realize Chess' inferiority. The most enjoyable thing in Go is that you can play it online and you can be sure that the enemy ain't cheating since Go is really difficult for computers to handle and even I can beat the strongest of computer programs.

Best,

Well, it didn't actually dawn on me that they are different until right before I posted that.  I have thought about it though (and, Thal, it didn't even take me a year for this one  :)), and they can indeed be compatible.  However, a person can be modest and anything but humble at the same time, while a person can also be humble and not modest at the same time.  I suppose it depends on what the intentions are.
