well there you have my question, just asking because it must be extremely difficult to do such a ranking .

It isn't intended to be a black and white grading system, rather a guide to whether a piece is around the correct level.

I've found it to be fairly accurate, but of course I work in AMEB grades, not ABRSM, so I have to sort of convert it first.

what exam board are these grades suppost to be?

I am doing the ABRSM grades and was studing one that this site said was a grade 5 but my teacher said that it was way below ABRSM grade 5 standard

Well it definitely isn't AMEB. AMEB grade 5 is approximately equal to grade 6 or 7.
It isn't intended to be something you should be basing whether your exam pieces are the correct grade or not, it's just to get a general idea.

It's not very reliable as difficulty is rather subjective.
I don't think there's so much difference in reliability between ranking pieces by difficulty and ranking piece by beauty.
