Study on musical tastes

"Fans of heavy metal music are gentle, creative people who are at ease with themselves, which makes them very similar to fans of classical music.

That's the finding of a new study at Scotland's Heriot-Watt University of the link between peoples' personalities and their choice of music."

I think most have noticed the reflection of personality in musical tastes.  Yes, I know, generalizations are bad mmkay, it might not be true always but stereotypes DO come from somewhere.

For the record, I came to classical music from being a metal fan.  We've got a few metalheads around here.

More interesting are some of the comments on the article:

"White Rabbit- I know a lot of Conservatives that are very big music fans. Perhaps not to your tastes but there are lots of country music fans who are conservative.
Frank Zappa held a lot of Conservative beliefs but he was more literally right wing. That means that he disagreed with the government making personal choices for people and that included "moral" choices that the Reagan administration was so bent on. If not for the heavy handed influence of the religious right, I think Frank may have been a Republican (he was a Democrat post Reagan)
Ted Nugent is a fire breathing Republican. Not that I would place any of his music in the "classic" catagory.
I'm always surprised when I meet musicians who are conservatives but there are many. Some of them are amongst the best musicians I know.
You shouldn't try to pigeon hole people in such black and white terms. That's the type of thing that reactionary populist Conservative politicians and radio hosts do."

Damn it, looks like we have an election coming up in Canada too now...  After how many months of having to hear about what Hillary said, what Obama said, what Obamas preacher said, what Obamas wife feeds Obamas dog.  Guess it's time for everything to be politicized.

I was also a metal fan before I got into the classics and started playing the piano.

I think it has less to do with musical taste, more on being picky as opposed to listening to whatever MTV and the radio feeds you. You go on and find more music from there.

It means you are more open-minded than I.
