What's your bedroom floor look like at the moment?
on: September 08, 2008, 02:01:39 AM
OK this is my first topic starter ever so not sure how this will work. Anyways, I woke up this morning and promptly stepped on several computer parts from my tinkering on the weekend and got stabbed by the pins on them. Wondered if it's normal to have clothes and computer parts all over a person's bedroom floor. Or whatever else happens to be on your floor?

Well, my bedroom has been my nemesis all my life  :P.  Right now, it's better than it has been in the past (that's not saying a whole lot), but it's pretty bad right now still.  There was a particular time in my life when my bedroom floor got so horrible I actually layed on my bed and cried because I had no idea how to clean it ... hee hee.

Right now, I could probably clean it in about half an hour if I really put my mind to it, but it looks worse than that, so I don't clean it, even though it's a goal everyday.  Besides, once I clean it, it somehow just grows again, I don't get it  ???.  Sometimes though, I will make the bed and put everything from the floor onto the top of the bed so I can have easy access to it for cleaning.  But, I rarely get the job finished and end up having to move the heap back to the floor so I can sleep on the bed at night.  Occasionally I have moved the heap from floor to bed back to floor each day for maybe a week or so, not ever getting anywhere with it.  Over a year ago, maybe more, I hung a green plastic bag full of mismatched socks on the wall with a tack, and I got so used to it being there that I forgot it was there.  I have not found the matches.  Recently it dawned on me that I ought to do something with those socks.  I won't actually describe what my floor has on it just now, I am just here to give you general ideas... pretty sure I saw a nickle the other day though.  I suspect that if I clean it up, I will start sleeping better again.

Pretty clean for the moment but that could change within the next few days...

It's covered in clothes, books, and archery gear.

That probably says a lot about me actually...

and it will be cleaned, only to get messy again soon after, so I don't bother cleaning it often.

Okay, here it goes.  I have made my bed and have moved the heap to the top of my bed and I have even already hung a few articles of clothing in their respective places.  I am determined to get it cleaned today :), and then if I want it to stay clean, I guess I have to change my habits.  Perhaps I may even do something with that green bag o' socks  :) .... *thinks up some "creative" christmas presents to give to everyone  ;D

It's interesting how something so simple as how a person keeps their room can be reflective of greater/deeper things !

Cluttered.  But on the positive side it improved foot dexterity if you can step around everything, and if a burglar ever comes in, they'll trip a lot. :)

When I used to live alone there was no such concept as "bedroom floor".

I have to keep my teddy bears on the floor, as there is not enough space on the bed for all of them.

You mean bedrooms are supposed to have floors?    :D

I like a clear walking path so all of the stuff is gathered up along sides of the wall in something that represents neatly randomly piled objects.

Well, I made some progress with both my room and my behaviors about my room today.  I got a lot cleaned and cleared, though not everything, and when I changed clothing I put the clothing right into its respective places -- despite my urge to just throw it in the room and let it land wherever it pleases.  Not sure what the score is exactly, but I believe my room still officially won for the day anyway since I have ended up moving a bit-o-heap back to the ground.

My bedroom floor is not MY bedroom floor -- strictly speaking.  It's the bedroom floor of my stepmother.  Well, she's hardly my "mother" since she's only six years older than I am, but she does have many virtues.  I think.  Actually, I hardly know her.

But, back to bedrooms, well, this one in NYC is mine -- temporarily.  I 'm here for a few weeks or so.  Not so bad.  A few tickets to the NY Phil, including Bronfman playing the Rach III under Maazel.  Hey, life could be worse.  Right?

But, Hawaii beckons.  I'm back to Kaua'i by the end of October.

Aloha, you guys.  No bedroom in Kaua'i.  Just a great beach.  Drop by!

Don't people have clothes hampers/baskets for dirty clothes? Why just toss them on the floor? Does it take that much more time/energy to put them in the hamper?

ahah, that sounds familiar!  My stepmom can be generous, until there's trouble and she's quick to remind everyone that she owns everything.  She can become a tyrant in the flash of an eye.

But I did pick up some good habits from her.  It's strange to think that I once was a very messy person.  Somehow I've gotten into the habit of putting things away as I walk around.  I also try to give a good thorough clean of the whole place once a month.  It sure is nice to have everything in its right place.

I actually took a picture when I saw this topic yesterday, but have no cord to plug the camera to the comp.  Maybe I 'cleaned' it away when I moved :o.  Gotta watch that I don't become neurotic.  My stepmom goes too far, when company is coming out all the nice things come out and she cleans up even our toothbrushes.  She makes the place look like it's not lived in.  It's spooky, like some sort of funeral home, plastic plants and all!

It is looking as it normally does.  Except for a few things to the left of my desk and to the left of my bed, it is a clear runway.  Plenty of room for dancing. :D

I may indeed refrain from telling much here but am nevertheless inclined to observe that the floor - the subject of this thread - is hardly the most obviously comfortable place for that variety...

My bedroom floor is covered in a _THICK_ pile carpet, with an additional sheepskin beside the bed, and there isn't a single item of garbage or discarded clothing on it anywhere, not even under the bed.

Yup, you guessed, I'm married.

Clothes, wood shavings, dirt, random bits of paper, books, broken stuff, garbage, sheet music, CD's, electronics (mostly broken because I stepped on them), etc.

You can't even see the floor.
Working on:
Beethoven - Waldstein Sonata
Bach - C minor WTC I
Liszt - Liebestraume no. 3
Chopin - etude 25-12

So...why are there wood shavings on your floor? No work area?
