I got nominated to go to Japan for a student exchange program!
I better brush up on my Japanese.
Congratulations and good luck! What kind of program is it? Japanese Studies Program? Arts-oriented kind of program? or the one geared towards international relations and politics?
I lived there before. You can PM if you want to ask something!
Yea the phenomena exists in other cultures aswell , but we would rather describe it by one of the disorders they are given. Labels like that must be very stigmatizing, maybe it has something to do with the parents shame?
Yeah... but they kind of do it to the max... I mean, I love order but I'm not bothered by a little variety here and there. There's a big difference between calling someone weird then laugh at him/her
and calling someone sick in the head then purposely avoid the person. The first one, you can brush off as a joke, while the other is very hurtful.
You know, I can say so many good things about the Japanese and Japan but I guess, there's no such thing as a perfect society. They have a lot of social problems that its people should work on.
And they also have a term for unmarried 20-somethings and above who still live with their parents. They it them
parasite singles. Of course, in a culture where extended family is the norm, this is very offensive. Hahaha.
いいえ、そんなことないですよ。お大事にと言う決まり文句は英語で”Take care of yourself"の意味なんです。

I've tried using that phrase to say
Take care of yourself and I got corrected by my Japanese friends several times. It is something grammatically correct but inappropriate to the situation. The phrase should be 体に気をつけて下さい。 ^____^
