Hi lost,

I just watched the whole series.  It was a very penetrating inquiry indeed.  Many would enjoy these videos, and the serious minded would certainly benefit.
Interpreting music means exploring the promise of the potential of possibilities.

That was my thoughts exactly. It is good to see how much work goes behind these aspiring international concerting careers. I remember watching this a few years ago on TV, great to see it's on youtube now :)

Interesting set, Lostinidlewonder.  Thanks for pointing them out.  I had seen part of one of them and either didn't know there were as many parts to it as there are, or forgot and hadn't actually seen all of them yet.  At any rate, food for thought :).

That was very, very good.  However, the tone was quite pessimistic, not encouraging for the aspiring pianist.  The last words are a bit fatalistic:  "Benjamin, of course, will never need to find out how to be a great pianist; he'll either be one, or he won't."  Greatness may not be the only gatekeeper; it may be more an issue of the elevator capacity.
He was not of an age, but for all time.

Yeah I think that being an international concert pianist is not necessarily the only measuring stick of "greatness" in musical terms. In terms of musical performing success it might be considered greatness. Even if any of those aspiring performers in this video don't become famous concerting pianists they all still have a wonderful great musical future ahead of themselves! But it is comforting to lesser mortals, that haha, these guys try so hard but it will be for nothing! They are in the same boat as me so it's all good! MWAHHA. lol

Piano Street Magazine:
Women and the Chopin Competition: Breaking Barriers in Classical Music

The piano, a sleek monument of polished wood and ivory keys, holds a curious, often paradoxical, position in music history, especially for women. While offering a crucial outlet for female expression in societies where opportunities were often limited, it also became a stage for complex gender dynamics, sometimes subtle, sometimes stark. From drawing-room whispers in the 19th century to the thunderous applause of today’s concert halls, the story of women and the piano is a narrative woven with threads of remarkable progress and stubbornly persistent challenges.
