Sherpa of the year
on: December 31, 2008, 01:35:42 AM
This guy is amazing.  I read about him today at the dentist's office.  Here's the very same article for anyone who's remotely interested in a brave and daring sherpa:

Reading about acts of bravery whilst awaiting dental treatment is entirely appropriate.

Incredibly brave people the Sherpas who have served my Country very well. Regretfully, in return they have been treated like crap, whilst we look after a tide of loafers, drug addicts and pimps that have washed up uninvited on our shores.

When i was staying at the Sligachan Hotel on the Isle of Skye a few years back, i walked up one of the local hills and back to the hotel in what i thought was a very good time of 4.5 hours. I was later advised by one of the owners that the record was held by a Sherpa at 45 minutes. The record had stood for years and nobody had got anywhere near it.

In the mountains, there is nobody better to have by your side.

Happy New Years !

PS I really do wish you luck on your quest for the  music of Bolko whats-his-name.  I will keep an eye out for it when i do my annual thrifty pickings from bookstores/antique sales/estate sales.  Likely, you can buy it from a german site, though.

You know - you haven't done a u-tube with a few of these odd assorted pieces.  I think you should dress up like each composer when you play their works.

It is you that is in need of some kind of restorative sleep.  The kind you only get when you snore.  Bolko's music is from the operative kind where burleske and military meet.  What kind of audiences are you playing to?  Oh.  yes. Mental Martin.  Tell him hello.  Randomly.

He's right. Anyone can now see how much mad you have became. And I used to think you were a friendly, intelligent female when I arrived on PianoStreet. Now I am wrong. :(

Don't tell me you listen to Bolko too?  Well, happy new years and a military salute (and stomp) and (shake the boot) and (pie in the face).

Randomly.

I can tell by your word choice that you have teenagers hanging out in your home.

How are your kids, by the way?  Well, I hope.

You've flipped. This is the worst you've ever went before. I think you need another session in the cushioned, white room. ;)

I pity them, especially their mental health. If they've had to grow up around her...no doubt in later life, their minds will be corrupted and ruined too. Psychological fact.

How did you know about my cushioned white room?  (looks around)

Well, my children are fine, thank you.  The youngest just left.  I must clarify - to play with her friend next door.  The oldest is going to college.  He refuses to go to the Christian college i had suggested.  And, well, the middle daughter is probably getting a full scholarship in a few years to any college of her choice (unlike the scholarships for left-handers which i 've been filling out for my son - but he's intelligent - just not high GPA).  One thing he must get credit for is that i end up doing a lot of his paperwork.  Why are some mothers so overly worried?  At this point, it should be me that is sitting back wondering where the money should come from.

I have to add, he's a really great son, though.  Yah. He's non-religious.  Does that make you happy.  Do you think i contributed to it?  Well, as i see it if you teach them about G-d when they are young, they might think about Him later.  I thought the dental office might do it - but he seems the same today.

Word got around about that room. ;)

I wonder why he refused Christian College. He must have been sick of religion and is rejoicing at the fact of leading a normal life away from religion.

OK.  How to explain it all.  My son has not really every been religious ever since he stepped out on the back patio table (crawled up on it at 3 years of age and said 'where's G-d?') I have not dissuaded him, although if he asks me questions I give an answer.  We are pretty close and don't typically argue.

The college was just a suggestion, not a command.  The tuition was cheaper, but i have no idea if the classes are legit.  We found a happy medium which is a community college he's already been attending.  Figure a two year degree will get him into Penn State or something.

*Question: would you take these two classes in the same semester - pre-calculus and beginning physics?  I'm afraid one grade might suffer over the other.

Sherpas are unusual human beings that have an inordinate ability to handle low oxygen environments and take huge risks with their own lives.  This particular sherpa is also good looking.

Why don't you list all the people that like you (won't take long) and converse with them via private message.

Then the forum is not polluted and people will not get upset.

Funny, my best friend is a communist.  Well, i'm reading about Hindemith and he wasn't entirely communist.  After all, he wrote a Requiem for Walt Whitman.  That was a nice gesture.

OK.  Sherpas have the distinct advantage of claiming whatever country they happen to be on the side of on the mountain.  Similar to Moses and G-d.  I mean, if you met G-d on a mountain - who's mountain is it?

What if everyone had to change countries for one year.  I guess we'd all just make do with the governments available to us.  What country does Richard Black live in?  Let me guess.   USA.

What I don't understand is the high taxation.  I mean that's how the colonies here first began.  'Take your taxes and shove it....'  Well, not quite that - but you know - they just dumped the tea.

Now, supposedly we are  free country and the rich took everything and left because they heard the rich would be taxed - and the poor people can't afford a passport and are stuck here permanently.

You know what I think is communist is the fact that Blagoevich actually had the gumption to choose the next senator and expect everyone to applaud his choice.  This is now socialist territory at least.  You know everyone in government here is now connected.

Can you imagine if Blagoevich was forced to be a sherpa for a day.  He'd be hording all the rations.

Assuming that was a serious question, it depends on if the physics class uses calculus. If so, then he should wait. It also depends on his work ethic and whether he can handle two science/math courses in the same semester.

Thanks, pianoperformer, because it was a serious question.  I was worried about the same things - like what math physics would have.  Even though it's a beginning class it makes me think he should just take one math/science at a time.  He doesn't think so - partly because there are a bunch of online tutoring helps that he could use.  His work ethic is pretty good now (as compared to 10th grade - it's awesome).  He used to game all night (well - he's been gaming still over holiday - but less when he has homework now).  I shouldn't talk about him online - but i was concerned about the two classes at once so that he could make a good grade in both.  Perhaps it would be best to take physics in the summer?

Thanks - don't want to waste the money because he'll probably enjoy the class more in the summer after taking the pre-calculus (and possibly calculus I?).  Maybe calculus I in the summer and then physics?  I think it's an introduction to physics.

it would probably help if he had a good understanding of calculus before he does physics.
