The preludes i selected form WTC Book 1
on: February 05, 2009, 03:00:44 PM
Hello friendsˇˇ

I just want to know your opinions about the following preludes:

Num 3 in C# major
Num 8 in Eb minor- This one is my favorite cause sounds very mysterious
Num 12 i F minor and 17 in A b major - I will play first the slow one (F minor) and then the one in A flat which is very cheerful.

Which one of them is your favorite? Why?
Which one should i learn first?

Thanks

The masterpiece tell the performer what to do, and not the performer telling the piece what it should be like, or the cocomposer what he ought to have composed.

The B flat minor prelude is very fine. It seems to express grief or tragedy, but in a harmonically beautiful way & can stand alone without its fugue.
(Try to hear Gould's version.)
 Peace.

Sorry, in answer to your question, the A flat seems a good one to try.

I totally agree with b flat minor.  Also agree with Gould on this... he plays it slow compared to other interpretations but I think this allows those beautiful chords to be savored.  Especially love the second half of this composition.  One of my favorites to play.

I think B-minor from bk 2 the the best. But from book one, I think the one in E flat major
