Level of Nocturne
on: May 25, 2009, 05:16:43 AM
I have a Nocturne of Chopin (Posthu), but I have absolutely no idea what level it is, so I don't know if I can give it to any of my students. I find it quite simple for a Chopin piece, but it's Op. 72 No. 1. If anybody can help me with that, I'd be greatful.

Also, while I have it in mind, I'm working on Bach's Toccata and Fugue as well as Debussy's Valse Romantique. If you know the levels of those, I'd like to know them as well.

Thank you!

You can find the level of a piece by clicking on  *piano music* at the top of the forum page, and  there you can click to the composer(in alphabetical order), click that and a long list of composers appear, then click the composer's name and another box appears where there is a list of the pieces, then click the title of the piece and then another box will appear with the level and print download.

best wishes,

If it were only that simple. For some reason, this one isn't listed. My other Nocturnes Op. 55 No. 1 (which is absolutely gorgeous) and others are there, but this one isn't. I know it's Chopin because it was in a book I have from Prague, but for some reason, this site doesn't list it. I would guess it were 6 or 7, but I have no clue. But I will do that for the others. Thank you.

Hey there jet417!

I would rate this one about as difficult as 6th grade. I've not played it, but it doesn't look all that challenging from a technical point of view - some legato octaves, some melodic lines in different voices and decorative figures characteristic of the nocturnes towards the end.

I would have put this one as marginally easier than 55#1

Have fun with it.
