This is the theme from a radio program I like a lot. I've always wondered who wrote it (and what it's name is). Here's a sketch of the beginning (I'm not sure about the key though, but it goes something like this).

Fauré: Sicilienne, a piece for cello-orchestra/piano. If i remember properly, its opus 78.

How wierd.  The first few bars sound like Beethoven op 2, no. 1 in ternary tempo.
