This site/forum is really great, but I notice it's mostly populated with "prof" pianists, or people who already have loads and loads (years) of pianoplaying already... there is no part for real "newbies" here... if feel like a student starting for medical school or so and thrown in a board of surgeons and other specialists.
Or maybe it's just me, maybe it's the forums' purpose??  ;D If not, a section for noobs would be great I think...  :-X

Its what happens in any forum. Some people are 'noobs' and are the ones that ask questions in general, and some are more experienced and give the answers. And i suppose there is already some sort of 'noob-section': The students board :)

I agree and understand gyzzzmo, but  I see there is not that much feedback from pro's to noobs on this board, which is a pitty I think - ok noobs can ask maybe stupid questions but  8)... anyhow, will take some time I guess to get on this pianotrain anyway :-) cheerz

When are you not classified as a 'student' anymore if we consider List etc 'masters'  :P When your master dies?  ;D

Hello Clicquot,
Don't worry, welcome.   You're already on the pianotrain, no ? It is true that there are truly wonderful people around here, I myself I'm really fond of this forum.   Of course, when you need help, it is not always the best place to expect some, but you can get very precious information here.   Lots of folks are really generous and really amateurs in the true sense of the word - they 'love' the piano.   I like to hang around here, and what I prefer is conversation, maybe more than solutions (but don't get pessimistic about it, you can get really wonderful advice, answers, rare sheetmusic etcetera here)...
Clicquot, you quote 'Jef Neve', are you perhaps Belgian ? There are a few other Belgian pianists hanging around here.
Welcome again.

Hi alessandro! Thanks for you nice words  ;) Don't get me wrong, I like this place a lot!!! But it's sometimes way far over my head (technical etc). And I have a thing of wanting to understand what someone is saying :-) Of course, as  a newbie piano player, that's most likely kind of "normal". I've explained some things about learning the piano (and searching for teachers etc) in another thread here... Like I said, if you want to become a MD, you go to school... but if you're interested in music (as an adult, I know too late but forget that thought though :-)..) it's more difficult... Until now, selfstudy is the way to go (I mean if one is interested in music theory). I've asked my teach if he wants to "feed" my musical hunger... going to musicschool after business hours is... vveeeryyy slowwww progress, I have the impression that a lot of those students are there because they want an evening outside their house... and play and have fun with other adult students and so not taking the stuff seriously :-(

Anyhow, yes i'm from Belgium..;were are all those other beerdrinkers here? :-)
regards!!

The thing is, most of noobs questions have been answered in this board dozens of times, and some (not all) of the people who were teachers or 'pros', just got tired of answering the same questions over and over again and stopped doing so.

In my opinion, the forum lacks a bit of organization and cleaning, and a more appealing search function.

You've got a point there oroveashe! Your remark about FAQ's is most likely one of the big issues (as in all fora) of not answering to questions (easy) anymore! You might be right regarding your opinion...it's a very basic structure, nevertheless tons of good info... a bit overwhelming sometimes, maybe difficult to sort things sometimes...
But you know, for noobs, it's a hell of a job when you start this study, to find to correct and good information...even on the net! A lot of forests and big thick trees!! Remarkable!

But if you dont really understand an answer from somebody, whats holding you to reply for an explanation? Maybe its not a problem of the forum, but a problem of your way of posting?

Well, the celebrities here, and the people from which I've learned the most, are Bernhard, Chang (who wrote this book), xvimbi, Hmoll and some more that I can't remember. When you search you have the option to look for a specific user's posts, so look for some, specially by Bernhard. Hopefully in time and reading old posts (as well as posting) you'll get familiar with the terms and technical explanations. I was in a similar situation as you are when I first joined.

There are a lot of teens here and only a handful of adults.  There's always the student board for basic questions.

Gyzzz

I was waiting for this question  ;D It's not about me posting/asking things...it's just a general remark, something I notice... and wanted to say. It would probably be "not done" when jump into a conversation asking "could you explain"... therefore, like iroveashe says, i've found this Chang book and many other stuff to look up things, but it's sometimes  :-\ Also Bernhards feedback is indeed wonderfull... i've discovered some really nice noob pieces thanks to his replies in some threads... you know, easy pieces that sound good  :P

Oh well, like I say, no big critics on this board, it's great!... just high level entry, but i'm working on this  ;D
