i wanted some advice on which etudes would improve my technique

The ability to increase your technique depends alot on the ability to detect your flaws.
I say this because you increase your technique fastest by dealing with your biggest flaws, and in general most chopin etudes each deal with a different flaw.

Communist gave a decent list of the etudes who deal with the most common flaws, although i'd remove op. 25/11 and op. 25/12 because there not really specific. Opus 10/4 doesnt really deal with specific problems either but its a handy piece to detect your issues.

I would have though the best ones to deal with technique are....all of them!  They are studies in technique - technique does not just encompass playing notes but how you play the note - 10/3 for example being able to produce a cantabile tone in the top line of the rh whilst keeping the accompanying figure in the background (most of the time)
Never look at the trombones. You'll only encourage them.
