New Repertoire..
on: February 15, 2010, 06:33:59 PM
So, my piano teacher and I have decided to do a theme of the great pianists of the Romantic period. The four pianists being Liszt, Thalberg, Chopin, and Gottschalk.
For Chopin I'm playing his second Scherzo, I think I'm going to be doing Liszt's Funerailles but some suggestions on Thalberg and Gottschalk would be great! Perhaps something of comparable difficulty to the Scherzo..Thanks!

I have been looking at doing something similar, but chose De Meyer, Herz, Thalberg & Gottschalk as they all toured America.
To contrast your Liszt and Chopin choices, you could try some Nocturnes by Thalberg or one of the delicious L'art du Chant Op.70. If you wanted something a bit more in the display department, perhaps one of the earlier transcriptions such as Meybeer's Robert le Diable and Bellini's Straniera. If you are more adventurous, you could chose the mighty transcription Op.33 that he played in his duel against Liszt.
For Gottschalk, "The Banjo" always has appealed to me.
