My Self Learning Roadmap
on: March 31, 2010, 04:17:42 PM
Hi,
My Name is Vivek and I have learnt Piano all by my self. I have tought myself ,
1) Chords
2) Chord Inversions
3) Arpeggios
4) Scales - Major , Minor (Natural , Harmonic , Melodic) , and Blues
I can play pop / rock songs by first listening to it and then playing out the melody easily. Although for some songs I need to look at the pattern of the rhythm from the sheet music , which I think at this stage might be fine. I have not tried to play any classical piece uptill now. Please suggest me what all should I learn inorder to improve my skills and techniques. Any inputs will be much appreciated.
Thank You
Vivek

Playing classical music will help you improve your technique, also Czerny and Hanon exercises are recommended.
Syart off with some easy Bach and move onto the inventions.
Also, get a teacher!

What kind of songs do you play? Can you make videos for us? I suggest you buy some beginner books to sight read, and I second the Bach for pieces to memorize. How's your sight reading? How's your memory? Most importantly, how's your performance? Do you like the way you sound? Come back with answers for these questions, and I'm sure you'll find better help here.
