Marriage Damour and music reading problems
on: December 16, 2002, 01:45:40 AM
Does anyone know any online stores that sell the music sheet for Marriage Damour? Also, I have never read music on the sheet well, I've always been writing in the notes and memorizing the song, not reading the music, is that ok? If not, how to I get out of that habit?

hey IMW11029. I can't help you with the sheet music, but I have a student who doesn't and can't read music well. Can I ask how long you've been learning the piano? My student's about 5 and she's been learning with another teacher for a year, now she's changed to me, and its pretty difficult to fix the problem. I suppose reading music would be a very valuable skill to have, you don't "have to" learn to read music, but its gonna be a lot more interesting and musical if you know what the score looks like when you're playing a piece.
Now the only way to memorise where notes are what notes are written, is to play alot of music, practice reading music by sight reading, going through section by section without writing down the letter names, some very simple sight reading exercises, and also, stopping in the middle of a piece and just picking up the piece from any given bar, either choose it with your eyes closed or something.... If you'd like to read sheet music then its hard work, its like reading another language. I've tried to read alto clefs because I want to be able to recognise the same way as treble and bass, and its bloody difficult. Practice is the only way ta go, start from simple to hard pieces.
oh well, looks like I've blabbed on for quite enough. hope it helps.

well I've been playing for about 5 years and then I stopped for a year. Then I picked up piano again with another teacher, after three years with her, she had to get surgery recently so I'm stuck until next year without a teacher, and I really want to show my teacher that I can play piano well if I can play that song, since I have been playing extremely sorry for the past three years.
