2010, September 27, clavichord improvisation
on: September 30, 2010, 01:59:08 AM
I used a bit of reverb on this recording, so it sounds kinda eerie. Also, the clavichord still isn't quite in tune. It'll take some practice.

A lot of this recording is baroque but there are a handful of parts which deviate from that sound. Sorry for the extraneous click sounds, a piece of a cable kept wobbling around on the microphone.

A genuine suite!  Very nice, I listened twice!

Thanks. Playing the clavichord is a revelation. If I don't play it a certain way it sounds horrible. It forces me to think about touch, constantly. Plus, it is giving me insights into baroque music, especially the "why" of some of the old voice leading rules. On the clavichord they seem less like rules and more like "what sounds good." Too bad there isn't a "clavichord street" or I might post recordings of baroque pieces as well as improvisations. Maybe it should be "clavichord family room," haha, to pay tribute to the domestic history of the instrument.

There's an area here: https://musicphilia.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=earlymus at a PS member's own forum.  I'm hoping it may kick off, who knows.

Your new post reminded me that I had yet to listen to this clavichord improvisation. I am enjoying your revelation...of course different instruments (even different pianos) lend themselves to different types of music, and this is often an on the spot inspiration as far as improvisation is concerned. The reverb is an odd effect, and I think I like the instrument better dry.

But the playing...oh I really like the playing.
Don't let anyone know where you tie your goat.
