chopins ballade no.1
on: October 07, 2010, 09:07:23 PM
Hello
I'm following the forum for a while now and since i think its really helpfull so i joined!
I have a small question and hopefully someone can help me.
I've just started working on chopns first ballade, no problems in the fingering yet but i have a really small question about the pedalling in a part.
In the 1stsempre piu mosso part (measure 40) i have a small problem. I cant really seem to get it right. Im playing the first measure without pedalling now and the second with pumping.
Should i do it all without? Cos this is not really how i want to hear.. Im pretty sure i play it right. Its a small detail but I'm kind of an perfectionist (arent we all) and i want it to sound they way i hear it in my head.
Since thats kind of impossible to let you hear maybe some advice from someone who allready plays it can help!
Tank you in advance,
Jacob

oh oh oh THE ballade
i just tried that passage again. what i did (or believe i did) when i played it was:
measure 45 (sempre piu mosso)
i press the pedal just after having played the first chord (on beat 1), then i release it exactly when i play the e flat octave in the left hand (beat 6).
then in measure 46 i press the pedal at the same time as i play the chord on beat 2 and release it with the chord on beat 4. Then again pressing it with the chord on beat 5.
notice the difference between pressing it after plaing the chord (measure 45) and with the chord (46). The first one is for the pedaling/echo/legato effect, the second for a sort of accentuation.
Hope that what i wrote makes sense for you.
And welcome to the forum!
