Relearn Fantasie Impromptu
on: October 13, 2010, 11:10:19 PM
I got and practiced Fantasie Impromptu a long ago. However, due to my busy schedule and a "bad experience" with a strict teacher (mostly my schedule), I forgot some parts of the piece.

What can I do?, should I start from scratch again? what kind of exercises should I follow?

Thanks for your suggestions.

Note: I will put in Audition the piece when I was "in my prime" playing it, when I did less mistakes.

I hope to put the link to it.  Just be patient, please.

It's a common experience to set a piece of music aside after learning it, and then—months, years or decades later—seek to revive it.  I don't understand why the process of resuscitating and rebuilding one's proficiency with this particular piece would differ from any other one.
What passes you ain't for you.

You should learn very slowly one hand, then the other hand. When you are totally sure in left and right hand and you can play it fast, you start playing together both hands. You should play it correctly from sheet, and look when tones occur meant to be played together.
Accept, for that, you need to have strong and fast fingers and hands, on advanced level. If your hands are slow and on middle level, I think, you wont achieve the speed, meant for this work. You can of course try with practice, practice and practice in all ways.

I was close to doing this the other day. I learned FI a couple of years ago now and have forgotten almost all of it. However in the end I chose not to spend time relearning it and just move on and enjoy learning new pieces.

If you have to re-learn it for a strict reason then by all means do so, but if like me you were thinking of re-learning it merely to be 'complete' then maybe have a think about it.

I thought you should always practice with both hands??...
