I want to learn some piano shredding/solo.
on: January 07, 2011, 11:20:23 PM
Hello guys.

I want to learn some piano shreding and solos, like these.

Also, i want to learn some "classical progressions", if someone understand what i mean =p.

Does anyone have some tips? Also, is there a fast way to learn these things on all keys? Cause im too slow to transpose this.

I was just shredding some junk mail.  I wasn't aware the arpeggios I practice I considered shredding.  *Bob shreds arpeggios on the piano.*

I IV V I is a very classical progression.  That's all over the place.

From those youtubes, a white and/or tie dyed shirt appears to help.

I don't think there is a short answer.  I guess the short answer would be to memorize arpeggios by rote.  The longer answer is to take lessons and study theory and know more about what you're playing.

The stuff I heard on the youtube videos was just patterns or arpeggios.  I doubt anyone here would be too impressed.  I'm wondering what someone does after they do a big arpeggio and the audience is there waiting.

I don't know of a fast way though.  Just have someone show you a few chords.  Maybe don't learn a pattern in all keys, just one key if that's all you'll play.

I suppose there comes a time in one's life when he learns something that's apparently been around for quite a while.  I feel like a nincompoop.  Shredding?  I guess I get the idea now.  But can someone explain this:

Now I really feel dumb.  This is Beethoven?!?!?!?

Does thick glasses and sticking your tongue out help?

Actually, that sounds better than anything Brendull could have done.

More seriously.... I think there's a thread or a few threads on here about pieces that are easy that sound flashy.  A few arpeggios or broken octaves can make a piece sound like more than it is technically.

Just learn some Liszt operatic transcriptions or some of the Horowitz and/or Volodos transcriptions of them. If that isn't shredding (especially the latter), I don't know what is.

Maybe I'm wrong, but the way I understood it here (and before now I had never heard of the term "shredding" in piano playing), shredding means dividing between two hands a passage that is meant for one hand.  Thus, I don't get the argerich clip or the learning a liszt transcription.  Am I wrong?  What does "shredding" mean?

Well shredding is about really fast electric guitar solos.  Something like this:

So it is a little bit tongue in cheek to refer to any piano playing as "shredding".  But of course it is possible to play rock solos on keys similar to a guitar solo.  But in the case of Argerich it is more jokingly saying she is shredding because she is able to play so fast.

Although ironically some of these extreme metal guitarists have a lot of classical background and seem to get a real kick out of playing JS Bach keyboard works on the electric guitar.

Take Your Seat! Trifonov Plays Brahms in Berlin

“He has everything and more – tenderness and also the demonic element. I never heard anything like that,” as Martha Argerich once said of Daniil Trifonov. To celebrate the end of the year, the star pianist performs Johannes Brahms’s monumental Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Philharmoniker and Kirill Petrenko on December 31.
