Pachelbel Canon in D arr. by Oborin - does mp3 match the score?

Hi, I have a question about piano performance of Pachelbel Canon in D (arr. by Oborin) that is here on Pianostreet. Performance in mp3 is very bright, piano beautifully "sings". I am beginner and have only electronic piano (Korg M3, but I think that its sound is one of the best). But when I play this piece, it sounds more "muddled" than in that in mp3. I also played along with mp3 and it is big dissonance every note. I played with settings and discovered that it sound very similar when I set transpose +2 semitones. Is it possible that this piece is played transposed and not in D major? It also sounds better if I set Werkmeister temperament instead of Equal and general tune lower by 20 cents (to 435 Hz).

Hi Mayan,

The recording available on Piano Street is indeed in D major, (assuming you mean the one available here).
Although you seem to be familiar with the transpose and tune settings of your keyboard there might be some kind of global transpose/tune which is incorrectly set. You may wish get hold of a tuning fork or another reference (well, why not use the Canon in D recording!) in order to find the setting to get everything back to normal. Judging from what you tell, the keyboard sounds a little less than a whole step down which would be a reason to start looking at the tuning, rather than transpose settings.

Hi Johan, thank you very much. Yes I meant that score and recording. It is weird, but to be sure I will try to find also some other reference to check tuning. But I dont assume that it could be out of tune, because I played this piece with totally default settings and everything other sounds good, bud I didnt compare to recordings. Also this piece sounded good, but not as good (because of lower transpose) as the recording and the difference was clearly heard when I played along the recording and that was the reason why I started to try another tuning, transpose and temperament. I am confused :-D, but thanks for assurement, that the pianist didnt play a this piece in different tune or scale.

Problem is solved. You were right that mistake was wrong settings. I have connected my keyboard and audio interface digitally and set different sample rate on audio interface that gives system clock to the keyboard.
